Description

Bolstered by an advanced differential digital system based on the Texas Instruments PCM5141 DAC — celebrated for its dynamic range, low distortion, and aversion to jitter — CS1 plays performs full MQA decoding and seamlessly works with both TIDAL and Spotify via the streaming companies’ respective apps. The London, England-founded, Canadian-based company, announced the compact audiophile-grade component today that allows you to add streaming capabilities to pretty much any music system.

However, the irritating part is that it is randomly changing the volume, hence the quiet event, and the recent failure to work at all. Once I adjusted for the different levels on the analog and optical connection, they sounded virtually identical. I wanted to ask the question first to see if there was a ‘no brainer’ solution, rather than download lots of random apps that may or may not work effectively.Your last hope for getting the CS1 to deliver its very best performance is to download an app like the excellent Bubble UPnP for Android. The CS1 comes with a rudimentary Quick Setup Guide with an illustration of the package contents, a diagram showing how to connect it to other components, and a QR code for downloading the manual (there’s also a URL that you can enter into your browser). A single button with a tiny integrated LED is the only visible physical control (though not the only button, which I’ll get to in a moment). I woke up in the middle of one night with that niggling question about how the server → endpoint arrangement might be enabled. Pretty much every format you could want, except DSD, which I have to say, is really disappointing given NAD’s audiophile fan base.

CS1 interfaces with your home network via Wi-Fi or LAN Ethernet port; Bluetooth allows it to pair with mobile devices. It isn’t a dealbreaker but it would be nice to be able to use the resources on the Uniti Core to feed the NAD CS1.It can currently do what I want, but seems way to cumbersome, and its built in App for Internet Radio(Vtuner) does not have the amount of choices that Tune-In does on my Denon. It features both digital and analog outputs, including SPDIF coaxial, optical, and RCA analog connections. Paul also plays music from his iPhone through an AudioQuest DragonFly Red micro-DAC that’s connected to the 3. looks like it's designed to take Spotify mobile app users through the quick process of understanding what Spotify HiFi is, how it works, and how to know if they're actually getting the higher-quality lossless audio stream on their device. As well, digital output is bit perfect allowing you to use DAC of your choice to get full streaming functionality. You can connect the CS1 to your home network via Wi-Fi or hardwire its LAN Ethernet port to your network router or an access point. Whether this is caused by Bubble or the CS-1 ist not really clear to me, but the foobar UPnP renderer does not show this fault. Anything else needs to be streamed in to the box from another source via bluetooth or Chromecast from a mobile App?What I was listening for were sonic differences between using the CS1 and other ways of playing audio through their systems. If you are new to these measurements, please set aside some time to watch my video on DAC measurements. Compared to playing AAC downloads with a hardwired connection, there was no sonic penalty for using AirPlay 2. Being new to this, I had a lot to learn and I couldn’t find a comprehensive primer on the topic, so I kept notes.
