I gave it a three because I felt the story did have some redeeming qualities, and the author did something for me that I like. In Frank's swank Los Angeles pad in 1976, after the premiere of his latest film, a party is in full swing. In 2002, the show ran for approximately 120 performances at the Shaw Festival in a production directed by Jackie Maxwell and featuring Tyley Ross as Franklin, Jay Turvey as Charley and Jenny L.This is a synopsis of the current produced version of the show, not the original one performed on Broadway. It's no wonder I felt right at home with Merry, as I already knew her and Cole, and I am so happy to have been able to read the continuation of their story. In 1966 ("Merrily We Roll Along – Third Transition"), Frank is being divorced by his wife Beth, and they fight over custody of their son in a courthouse.

I guessed fairly early as to how the stories might intersect and it didn't remotely detract from my enjoyment and seeing if I was right, as I was enjoying all of the characters so much, I just was engrossed in their stories. Her job isn't exactly her dream career but she has had to work around caring for her father Ray, who has dementia. I found myself not liking Drake and hoping Ell would move on to a smarter guy who saw Ell for who she really is, or take the position in New York.
