I mean force the girl to choose one of them and then run off with that guy and never they would be friends again with the rest, it just sounds ridiculous to me. Freestyle is book one of this dark gang romance with gangsters who can dance and deals with adult themes and some subjects you may find upsetting. Even though I’m not a dancer I enjoyed the story and how dedicated heroine Pen is to living up to her goals.

A lot of the relationship part of this book took place in flashback chapters because our main characters knew each other as kids.

Crisp writing, a tight and gripping narrative style, and emotionally nuanced and imperfect characters- Bea is a world builder, and Freestyle is an emotional, intriguing, and complex world that blew me away.

And then worse for poor Pen here it seems she’s being personally tormented in some horrible and cruel ways by all the men in her life. If you are looking for a new and exciting series to start that is intriguing, different and spicy – then pick this one up for sure. I also kinda hated how before Pen showed interest in them when they were younger they were parading girls around her all the time and yet of course she stayed pure and didn’t even date. I also really didn't care for the major villain being a closeted gay or bi man who acts cruelly towards Pen because she catches him with a man. Now after so many years , she is finally able to achieve her goal and has got admission into the best dance academy ever.

But this author gives us her version, one that is completely different and in a way that screams BETTER! She "hated" them, wanted them gone, but every time they talked or flirted with other girls IN FRONT OF HER (assholes, super mature) she would get angry and had to control herself not to punch the girl they were with. I really like how the hints of their pasts and hints of something more to be revealed is interwoven over the story, even while my mind is spinning on WTF happened and trying to stay patient as it's only book 1.
