During all of my tests and general usage, I never noticed any type of image distortions, be that abnormal curvature or blurring when looking through this instrument. Hawke sent me the 8×42 Frontier EDX and it’s smaller, non-ED sibling the 8×32 Frontier HDX to review. I’ll look at the smaller/lighter/cheaper binocular in a separate article — for now, let’s see how I got on with Hawke’s new flagship binocular, the Frontier EDX 8×42. Balance, handling and build quality

Browse the top-of-the-range Hawke Frontier ED X binoculars here at Harrison Cameras. Like all Hawke binoculars, the Hawke Frontier ED X binoculars bring you optical precision, top-quality materials, and incredible value. With a range of sizes and models to choose from, including 8x and 10x magnifications, there is a pair of Hawke Frontier ED X binoculars to suit your personal needs. Following on from a hugely successful Frontier ED family, the new Frontier ED X had a lot to live up to and it thrived in almost every area. The optical and build quality is a grade above the Endurance ED binoculars, but so The first to respond was Hawke Optics, who sent me this 8x32 model from their new flagship range, the Frontier ED X series. Hawke Frontier ED X Binoculars Like just about every binocular I have looked through there is a degree of softening right at the edge of the view, but the amount is minimal and no more than what I would deem to be normal. Apparent field of view of 60.4 deg (according to simple formula) and 55.6 deg (according to tangent formula).Build-wise, I find the ER feels a bit loose, though it seems to stay in place. The diopter adjustment is pretty stiff and makes adjustment hard without shaking the point of focus all over. Like the bigger version, these Hawke Frontier ED X 8x32 binoculars feature an all-metal, magnesium alloy chassis. However, I would still recommend that you make the small investment in a lens cleaning kit to ensure that you don't mark the lenses when thoroughly cleaning them.

Available in either a gray or this green color on my sample pictured, the rubber used by Hawke is like that used on the 8x42 version: on the thin, harder end of the scale of what I come across. The Frontier series, produced by the UK Hawke company, is divided into two lines: the cheaper Frontier HD X and the more expensive Frontier ED X. Both of them feature 8x32, 10x32, 8x42 and 10x42 models which come in two rubber armour versions, either gray or green. As with just about everything when it comes to optics, if they are strong in one area, there is undoubtedly a compromise to be had somewhere else. So whilst they have a very wide field of view, the minimum focusing distance of 8.2ft, whilst still very good, is a little off the 6ft or under that, I would describe as being excellent. The sapphires 8x42 that i bought a couple of weeks ago are in another league both in build and optics quality and i have no eye relief issues with them. However, they are more than twice the price and you would expect a big improvement. Weight: 19.6 oz (557 g)—that’s about 1.9 oz (55 g) heavier than the average for compact binoculars in our review. Compare binocular sizes and weights As well as travel and birding, I think that these binoculars would also be great for general wildlife observation at closer ranges and fantastic on safaris, camping and hiking holidays.
