I carried a lot of different camera systems in the bag and found that its real sweet spot was with a mirrorless system. It can certainly handle a DSLR and a lens or two, but the bag is stretched to its capacity and anything else in its compartments will start to feel a bit squeezed for space. The Fujifilm X-T1 and 18-135mm were a good fit, and the GM5 with three of its lenses was nearly swallowed up. An entry-level DSLR and a kit zoom slip in without much protest, but a 5D Mark III makes the bag feel overstuffed.

As you can see, the Bowery was the perfect companion for wandering through Brooklyn Bridge Park, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it fares on my upcoming adventures. A classy, dark-hued Italian leather handbag that keeps my camera covered? It’s more than an improvement on those fashion-disaster numbers from my pre-teen days!

In addition to the weather resistant canvas, the ONA Bowery also employs flaps on the sides for further protection against the elements. It was a mix of window light and a Westcott Ice Light 2. I bought a pair of those Ice Lights, and I’ve been slowing experimenting with them whenever I get a chance. They are pretty cool!

Like my love for travel, it’s a relationship that started young, when I bought my first bag (a fake-fur, fluorescent blue and pink polkadot number) as a 12 year old away on summer camp. On-camera Lighting Flashguns Canon Fit Flash Sony Fit Flash Nikon Fit Flash Fujifilm Fit Flash Micro Four Thirds Fit Flash Panasonic Lumix S Fit Flash Flash Accessories LED Camera Lights Because off its compact size, full-frame sensor offering, and interchangeable lens system, Sony’s A7 mirrorless camera lineup has become extremely popular. The A7 is meant to be the lineup’s all-around camera, and the A7 III is its third generation. For years the Sony A7 III has been the go-to camera for photographers and videographers looking to take a step up in their abilities, as the camera offers professional specs and hardware at a price accessible even to the likes of budding film students. And while the A7 III has been on the market for quite some time now, it spent years competing amongst the best mirrorless cameras and has specs that hold up well even by today’s standards. Now we step firmly into the land of subjectivity. Even if Billingham’s bags were indisputably the most functional bag on the planet, nobody wants a bag they think is ugly. Me, I like the English countryside fisherman look in the colours I chose, but if there’s one area you have to hand it to ONA, it’s in the looks department. Their bags look fantastic. If their leather Brixton weighed what a Billingham Hadley Pro does, I’d have one already. ONA also have much more to offer in terms of styling choices, just prepare to open your wallet if you move away from their canvas bags and the Bowery.

It’s also a great looking bag overall, and it will only get better looking as it ages with use. The Bowery is something that you can use as your daily day bag but at the same time, it will feel equally at home if you decide to go to a fancy restaurant, business meeting or an event. Since it doesn’t have that traditional camera bag appearance, it’s not going to attracted unwanted attention either. Unless you encounter a person that actually knows what an ONA bag is, most will probably think it’s just a small messenger bag. The clasp. I am so used to velcro and zippers, that the metal clasp is a refreshing change. It’s silent to use, secures well, and is just all around better to interact with. I find it quite liberating to know I have a defined limit on what I can take in it for a day out or walking around a foreign town/city. Here’s a photo with my Fuji X-T1 with XF 18-55mm, and my XF 56mm f1.2 APD. ONA Bowery Camera Bag in Use:The canvas is meant to patina, and comes a bit distressed (I don’t think purposefully). Since owning it the distress keeps coming, and I love every new mark that shows up on it, but one could wax the canvas if bothered. Full Frame Cameras Canon EOS-R Full Frame Cameras Nikon Z Full Frame Cameras Full Frame L Mount Cameras Sony Full Frame Cameras Canon EOS DSLR Full Frame Cameras Nikon DSLR Full Frame Cameras Vlogging Cameras Can the right bag change the equation? What if your camera bag wasn't a bulky thing with a ton of zippers and Velcro and compartments, and was instead something you wouldn't mind bringing to happy hour? Btw, it’s good to see you’re still using the X-Pro1 with the XF 35mm F1.4. That’s a classic combo I don’t see as much nowadays. I know a lot of people jumped ship to the XF 35mm f2. Personally, I’m still a fan of the XF 35mm f1.4, and I still stand behind every word I said about it :). As for the X-Pro1, to me, there’s still something about the color of the first gen sensor that I like over the current ones. I miss mine :). What do you think of the ONA Bowery? Do you have a favourite camera (or travel) bag? I’d love to hear what gear you use when you travel!
