This is largely because of its default sound profile which is extremely bass-heavy and overpowers most of the other frequency ranges. Powerful CORSAIR iCUE software enables custom audio equaliser settings, SoundID personalised audio, RGB lighting, Dolby Audio 7. If you’re not, then know that it’s a comfortable, elegant and modern yet still gaming-forward design paired with a good though not quite premium build. And that is kind of a disappointment as most Bluetooth-powered gaming headsets these days now feature simultaneous audio playback.

Many competing headsets offer options which you don’t really need, like detachable mics or the Kraken V3 Hypersense's haptic functionality. On PC and Mac, you can also take advantage of built-in Nvidia Broadcast through the iCue app for more robust noise removal. In games, it doesn’t sound too bad as it does when listening to music, but it does lose out on a clear sense of directionality and sharpness in sound that the Movie Theater profile brings. It has a similarly boosted bass and treble response, but it’s not quite as exaggerated as the HS65 variant. The HyperX Cloud Flight S is a great wireless option for surround sound enthusiasts, and the surround sound feature is actually built into the hardware of the headset rather than a software feature. The Corsair HS65 Surround may not be as feature-rich as others, but when it comes to gaming headsets, audio performance is king, and that’s where this headset truly shines. The Corsair HS65 Wireless gaming headset provides a competent surround sound audio experience on PC and Mac, as well as support for 3D Audio on PS5.

The HS70 was enjoyable enough that I decided to use a picture from my review for my profile picture online, and I haven’t changed it since. Sonarworks SoundID Technology: Sonarworks SoundID technology for personalised sound control that tailors your headset settings to your personal audio tastes on PC and Mac.Once you go through the SoundID setup process, you should have a customized EQ preset for your optimized listening preferences. I spent most of my time testing the HS65 Wireless while prepping for the upcoming Lightfall expansion in Destiny 2, which meant playing through a variety of different activities to really put this headset through the wringer. But because this headset gets so many good reviews, I guess there's something at my end that causes the bad experience, I just don't know what. When testing gaming headsets, I usually do so with as little processing or EQ adjustments as possible, but I did try Corsair’s SoundID feature, which allows iCue to help you personalize your headset’s sound profile based on your audio proclivities. If you’re going to play CS:GO with this headset, I recommend using the FPS competition EQ preset, or using a custom EQ with low frequencies de-emphasized.

Finally, there’s also the impressive soundstage and sound imaging, both of which it inherited from the wired HS65. Corsair iCUE companion software provides a number equalizer presets to choose from, namely Pure Direct (Flat), Movie Theater, FPS Competition, Clear Chat, and Bass Boost. There’s also a lot of volume on tap, more than I’ve experienced on most wireless gaming headsets, in fact.

That’s something I appreciate as someone who’s tired of feeling her way through seemingly endless headphone buttons, never really knowing which switch is for what until I actually press it.

There’s enough audio-punch for game sound effects, like booming explosions and gunshots, to rip through, as well.On the left ear-cup, you will find the mic on/off button (the boom mic also has the same functionality by lifting it up or down), a volume rocker (that doubles as a button to change sound profiles when pressed), and a USBC port for charging. Thankfully, my voice came through much louder and clearer than anything else, and it even avoided clipping plosive consonant sounds from my speech. Audio for games will usually be recorded and mixed by professional sound engineers anyway, so all the EQ and volume levels should already be optimized for the user’s experience. These drivers on the Corsair HS65 Surround have no problem pushing sound through the 20hz-20khz audio range while its bass frequencies carry real weight.
