Description

Osmo Polyx Oil Raw retains the 'raw', light characteristics of untreated wood, meaning no more 'permanent wet look'. The ingredients use a small amount of white pigment to neutralise this darkening effect which generally occurs after application of a clear wood oil. The end result is a smooth beautiful finish with nearly-invisible protection. Keeps light interior woodwork and flooring looking light, ideal for Scandi-style interiors. Apply first coat thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Floor Brush - use in conjunction with the Osmo Telescopic Handle for ease of application

It seems there is a lot of confusion out there over the differences between all the Osmo products. I am asked all the time about how to choose which finish to use, and am constantly told the numbers just add to the confusion. And I totally get it. I felt the same way when first starting to use Osmo on my own projects. While I won’t be covering every single product Osmo makes, I can offer some guidance on the ones I do. I’ll try to make this as simple as possible.

Cleaning oiled or waxed floors with a steam cleaner or steam mop introduces high temperature and pressure water which can potentially degrade or strip the oiled or waxed finish. High pressure steam can also potentially damage wooden floors. Occasional Maintenance: For satin sheen surfaces that have dulled slightly, refresh the surface with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner can also help to remove stubborn shoe scuff marks for example. If the treated surface has retained colour yet there is a reduction in water repellency use Osmo Maintenance Oil. This is important to ensure the top coat remains optimal – especially in very busy areas like a door entrance for example. Osmo Maintenance Oil is thinner than regular Polyx Oil so can be used more regularly without adding too much wax and oil. Before using Osmo Maintenance Oil, damp clean the surface using diluted Osmo Wash and Care, or alternatively Osmo Spray cleaner and allow to fully dry. For small areas Osmo Maintenance Oil can be applied thinly with a lint free cloth or white pad. Remove excess product. Allow for good ventilation while drying. A small trial is highly recommended first. Thank you for getting in touch. Its difficult to give a definitive answer to that without a little more information. My first thoughts would be that Polyx oil is likely to be fine for your table, however it can depend on the wood type, the preparation carried out and how the product was applied. Polyx®-Oil Raw is designed for sanded or raw wood only – not suitable for dark wood species, or smoked/ fumed wood.

For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. A trial application is recommended. In short, no. Varnish is a coating type product that coats the wood with a plastic shell or skin. Wood oils work by penetrating into the wood but can’t with a varnish covering the wood grain. All varnish coatings need to be fully removed by sanding before an oil can be applied. Regardless of the size of the project, I always prefer to get up close and personal with the Raw, using my favourite applicator the Osmo Soft Tip Brush, I like to go with a 2 inch for smaller projects but I use the beefy 4 inch for floors or large areas. Its high quality synthetic mix of bristles is great at limiting over application. Wood first treated with Osmo Wood Protector 4006 may appear a little more dark. Always trial apply Osmo Polyx®-Oil 3044 Raw over the Wood Protector to ensure the final appearance meets with expectations. What’s the deal with clear? A clear product suggests it doesn’t change the colour of the wood, but it actually does. Clear Polyx Oil will bring out the natural tone and patina of the wood, enhancing the grain giving it will appear darker and what we call the “wet look”.When applying Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White, also use Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White as the top coat to prevent yellowing. Third Coat: Usually a third coat is not required, however highly absorbent or dry timbers may appear to require a third coat. It’s always a great idea to start with the best canvas possible, sand your wood through the grits upto P120, this is a fine sand on bare timber in preparation for finishing not suitable for removing varnish or paint. Always sand with the grain of

A. THIN application is very, very important. If too much is applied then the small amount of white pigment in this product can remain on the surface to give a patchy or milky appearance. The product needs to be worked into the wood so that very little remains on the surface. Also the darker the wood is (prior to application) the more likely the white residue is to remain. Whilst some people don't want the slight white look, others find it quite desirable

Untreated wood in its original form has a light, pale character from its natural 'raw' appearance. Sanded wood also has the same effect. Osmo Polyx-Oil 3044 Raw is designed to retain this appearance by using a small amount of white pigments to neutralise the permanent 'wet-look' that develops after application of a clear finish. Its hard to say for sure what you best option is with out seeing the beam and the issue you are having. You can send some photos and I will be happy to take a look, to [email protected].
