Domestika on using python to do generative art and then realized the whole thing was in Portugese with subtitles. If you take a card from the market in the middle then you’re also taking a risk: that when its replacement gets drawn could be a high-value card for your opponent to grab. I own Jamaica, another game from Game Works (the publisher of Jaipur), and it is similarly well put together. Finally, if they choose to take all of the camels, they place the camels into their herd, and replace them with cards drawn from the deck. If they take a single good to their hand, they will replace it with a card drawn from the top of the deck.

Taking lots of camels at once sets you up for a big play later, but also reveals random goods for your opponents to pursue. Or, if you want some more thoughts on Jaipur, check out I Slay the Dragon's Jaipur Review, or this other review of Jaipur by Games With Two. Crucially, some goods are worth more than others, and the first tokens in each stack are worth much more than the last, incentivising you to gobble them up quickly and corner the market. On the other hand, you receive increasingly high rewards for selling three, four, or five cards of the same good at a time, so you’d better wait! For adults, it's just a matter of whether someone is too sore a loser to just shuffle the cards and go again or not!Whilst the camel cards' value depends on whether you think you can collect more than your opponent, they still only pay out five points in total. The problem is that the game eventually stops working (happened on both Moto Z Play and Moto Z3), and requires a full reinstall, at which point you lose all progress and additional game modes.

It’s a fantastic couple’s board game: a deep but accessible puzzle that’s competitive without being too mean. From a central market of five cards, you will be taking either any one card, all the camels, or exchanging any number of cards.

Please note that the current version has a box that looks a little different to our photo above, but the game remains the same. For sets of three or more cards sold, players will be able to take a token which will contain a hidden amount of points. I think that it is brilliant that you have a "camel herd" that doesn't count towards your hand limit. You are one of the two most powerful traders in the city of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, but that’s not enough for you because only the merchant with two “seals of excellence” will have the privilege of being invited to the Maharaja’s court. I’m not one for games that involve a lot of itty-bitty arithmetic but Jaipur never really feels like that. Because Jaipur is strictly a two player card game, and you’re always working with the same resources, you’re always reacting to what your opponent is doing. A round ends when 3 of of the 6 piles have no more tokens, OR when a player is unable to draw a pile from the supply deck. So, although you don’t always want your opponent to be 'cameled up', it can be a good way to tempt them into refreshing the market for you.
