You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. And while April’s friendship with a polar bear which she affectionately names Bear is the fantastical element of this series, April befriends other people (children and adults), who support her not only her dream to live in the Arctic close to Bear but also her mission to fight climate change. I borrowed The Last Bear from the library and read it in preparation for the second installment, and I really enjoyed both! This entirely successful follow-up is just as exciting a story of love and enduring respect as its predecessor. Thought the author explored really well the changing relationship between April and her dad and drew parallels in the story which were brilliantly woven.

On winning the Best Story in the Blue Peter Book Awards 2022, Hannah said: 'When I found out I had won, I burst into tears and couldn't speak. But along the way, she discovers much more than she bargained for - a tiny polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. I'll be waiting eagerly for the book to be published in September, when I will eagerly be grabbing myself a physical copy and having a look at the illustrations in the book, which will no doubt be stunning! But along the way, she discovers much more than she bargained for – a tiny polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. This story also touches on a father/daughter relationship after the loss of April’s mother, the relationship she and her father have with other family members, and how April navigates complex relationships with adults when she herself is still a child.

Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). One of my favourite things about reading children's books is that they contain a form of magic that you just don't get in books aimed at older readers. April has found it hard to settle back in England and equally hard to accept her Dad’s new girlfriend. Hannah Gold has a really wholesome style of writing along with the traditional illustrations which go alongside the writing as well.

You’ll struggle to find a better children’s book and I don’t have the vocabulary to convey how wonderful it is. Convinced that it has to be her friend she convinces her father to travel with her to the most northern parts of the Arctic. I am beyond excited to go back to Svalbard with bear and A free falling in love with Hannah gold’s first book the last bear I have been anticipating this one so much. April's fear for Bear, her passion for conservation and her anger over the human destructiveness unleashed on our planet are very relatable.

They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! When April discovers that Bear is trying to save his cub, the journey becomes even more urgent as they fight to survive. When Hannah Gold’s The Last Bear was published, I think it took everyone by surprise with its phenomenal readership. In freezing temperatures, April must navigate the dangerous Arctic terrain and face her deepest fears if she's to save him.

The reader, while being so wrapped up in April’s emotions and the dramatic action, is also inescapably learning about the impact of climate change on this special environment and the responsibility we all have to protect it. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Finding Bear is a shining beacon of hope, love and friendship in a world where such values can be sorely missed. The environment and weather is harsh and forbidding and April then discovers something much more than she was expecting – a tiny polar bear cub. The Last Bear was her middle grade debut which became an inspirational, international bestseller on release in 2021.I did initially have some frustration with the character of April who seemed hell bent on ignoring all the safety protocols and putting herself constantly in danger.

Beautifully illustrated by Levi Pinfold, Finding Bear is a stunning story of survival, a heartwarming tale of love, and shows us how hope is born from the smallest of beginnings. The strong environmental message at the heart of the story which is rooted in the idea that love and friendship are the foundation of saving animals and the environment is a bit cheesy…But true. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. For some reason I don’t question a young girl being friends with a polar bear, but I do question her dad allowing her to go to the artic, and being there the following day lol! Descriptions in this fast paced plot are simply wonderful, conveying the Arctic temperature and inhospitable, threatening environment with razor sharp accuracy so that any reader can experience the cold and dark alongside April. This story is also full of awareness and messages for children to take away about the effects of climate change and how even doing the smallest things can help more than you would expect.
