regardless of how little I knew about this going in, I ate. it. up. started it at the airport before boarding and finished it as we landed. it was fast paced, but I felt I got to know Liz and Daria enough that it all made sense. it was cute, it was queer, it was young people realizing that maybe, just maybe, they are exactly who they need to be. that maybe, just maybe, they ought to take a chance on themselves — to love themselves just as they are, no holds barred. I've been walking around with this story and these characters bursting in my chest all week. I've been smiling to myself in odd moments thinking about it. I've been bringing my Kindle everywhere, feeling the pull of the story in the moments when it's regrettably at the bottom of my tote bag. Because I know Camille Kellogg to be funny, thoughtful, and big-hearted, (and, well, gay) I thought this book might share those qualities and so I had the highest hopes for it. And: wow, yes. I loved it. I said four.” Jane pulled out a tray of mini-quiches and laid them on the stove. She still hadn’t looked at Liz. “It’s six.”

You’re an incredible journalist, Jane,” Katie said. “ BuzzFeed or Autostraddle or somewhere will snatch you up, and you’ll be totally fine.” Therefore encourage one another, and let each one help to strengthen his friend, as in fact you do. I really struggled with this, I'm sad to say. Liz wasn't developed enough at all as a main character and while Daria was developed, it wasn't in a positive sense. There's so much telling and not showing especially when it comes to their relationship. Suddenly they're confessing feelings for each other and there was just no build up to it. Daria gets her little redemption arc but she just seems to be two completely different people from the start of the book to the end. All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Random House Publishing and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.A video essay or voyeurism? This show position itself as a romance drama with a strong “what-if” element. It is build upon the fantasy that a person can change gender spontaneously. Not via a sex change operation but an instantaneous and complete body reconfiguration including a different face. Therapy wasn’t always easy; growth can feel painful, but I discovered it wasn't as painful as being in But nevertheless the drama can be seen as a very valuable and carefully crafted pleading for an open mind especially regarding any relationship between any gender. There's not too many gems out there like this, and more are needed.

The acting and character development was shown in a slow but needed pace and done very well by all actors. Still it delivered with some unexpected turns and twists to keep you going and lots of thoughtful dialogues and shared thoughts of the protagonists. The Theme song was nice, rewatch value not too much regarding the story, but good to catch up on some thoughts here again once in a while. We meet weekly for 50-minute sessions, usually on the same day at the same time. I don’t routinely offer I also loved the talks about gender expression and presentation. Liz doesn’t think she’s non-binary but she also isn’t always comfortable being seen as too feminine or masculine. She’s insecure about how’s she seen and how she feels and I got a lot out of her internal struggles with that. I mean, the food’s going to be fantastic,” Jane gestured over her shoulder toward the stove. “But everyone’s going to be depressed and sulky during the first half, then get wildly drunk and self-destructive in the second.”Can you believe sapphic representation has gone so far lately?? We're getting our own toxic relationship stories 🥲 I cannot know how it feels for you as it is your own unique experience, but I think it helps give me a So much more than your average rom-com . . . Just as You Are is a full-on enemies-to-lovers romance thatexudes queerness at every possible turn. . . . It’s clear this book was written by a queer person, for a queer person. . . . Kellogg has made me feel so seen. . . . Kellogg’s references to queer pop culture feel like a shared language that only exists among queer people. I don’t know if a straight person would enjoy this book the same way that [a] queer person would—and that’s okay. This is for us.” — Autostraddle I really loved how both Liz and Daria grew - I feel like so many P&P retellings make the darcy the whole villian and fail to show Lizzie in all her flaws and growth. But Liz Baker was properly called out and brought to task for her real shitty behaviors towards her best friends (and Daria)
