Believed to be one of the oldest Montana vineyards originally planted with Pinot grapes, Larry is now nurturing Marquette, Verona and Petite Pearl grapes. Tom advised the workshop attendees in how to best prune these cold hardly grape varieties and was bold enough to hand a brown thumb like me, a.k.a. the Serial Plant Killer, a pair of pruning shears! In the former study, inactivation of PAI-1 by tea polyphenols was presented as ineffective [ 22]. In contrast, the latter study used thromboelastography to show that polysulfated flavonoids featured high blood anticoagulation activity. To sum up, these compounds are potentially safe, efficient agents for anticoagulant therapy [ 23]. Stay tuned later this week when Linda sends us an update from the third Annual Conference of the Montana Grape and Wine Association. She’ll introduce us to a kilt-and-highland boot wearing winemaker, a wine named Gut Craic (“Good Fun”), and a grape known as Petite Pearl. Pinot Noir. Dr. Andrej Svyantek of Montana State University’s Western Agricultural Research Center is one of the people doing wine grape research in Montana. Svyantek says he is excited about the new cultivars being developed for these challenging climates — and what these seedling vines can offer in terms of cold tolerance, disease resistance, and flavor. There is observational evidence that two tools—the multiplate analyzer (using multiple electrode aggregometry (MEA)), and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM)—could be superior to routine testing for monitoring of bleeding in surgical patients who use herbal medicines [ 24].Montana vineyards are found within the mountain ranges that Montana is famous for. Given the climate and grapes suitable for cultivation in the region, the wines most often produced include Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. White Raven turns out 12 different wines, four of which headline the selection as being entirely Montana made, from “grape to glass,” as manager Nieman says. The four wines, two reds, a rosé and a white, are made using three specific types of grapes grown in vineyards throughout Montana’s small banana belts like Thompson Falls and the Bitterroot Valley. Their nearest producer is Spotted Bear Vineyards off Finley Point on Flathead Lake. The acreage of our vineyard lies in the shadow of Columbia Mountain, which is the terminus of the Swan Mountain Range.
