Well … you’re a skinny little thing,” she said, as if the fact was both important and relevant. She opened the door wider and I stepped inside the frigid castle, forcing myself not to rub my shivering arms. “Then again, the grander-looking debtera didn’t do us much good, did they?” JadePhoenix13 on Reading The Wheel of Time: Taim Tells Lies and Rand Shares His Plan in Winter’s Heart (Part 3) 2 hours ago In fact, this is one of the qualities that Magnus finds so endearing about her. As a spoiled rich kid, he enjoys that Andromeda has an attitude and that she’s not afraid to put him in his place. He becomes enamored, and somehow that turns his insufferability into something charming. Many times.” To rooms. Not an entire house, let alone a castle. But God knows when—or if—I’d ever get another job offer, not without a debtera license. A little lying was warranted.

Andromeda and Magnus make for an intriguing pair and one of my favourite couples out of all the books I’ve read thus far in 2021. One of the main reasons for this is definitely the banter shared between the two. There are moments of wittiness, vulnerability and feeling that I wasn’t expecting, but I am glad it was part of the tale. It’s hard to delve deeper into their relationship without giving too much away, but I will say that I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find any reasons to dislike the pairing of Andromeda and Magnus. What’s even better is that each character is just as great on their own, their joining together is just a delightful bonus. Andromeda is a debtera – an exorcist hired to cleanse households of the Evil Eye. She would be hired, that is, if her mentor hadn’t thrown her out before she could earn her license. Now her only hope is to find a Patron – a rich, well-connected individual who will vouch for her abilities. In spite of everything, she had such a capacity to give love and I wanted that for her. With this being said, the relationship between Andi and Magnus does tread a bit into Instalove territory; so, if this is a problem for you, you've been forewarned. However, ill still mention that the writing style itself was really and that speaks a lot about the author. This was not a genre i enjoyed and not a story i liked, but the author still managed to make me have a positive impression of the writing style itself so cudos the the author. And this tells me that people who truly do enjoy ya romance as genre, definitely would enjoy this book!!! Yes, but she’s seen war,” he said, pointing to my scar. I fought the urge to cover it with my hand. The instalove was there but not in a cringey way. Magnus had a bit of character growth to redeem himself. Andi’s grit and ability to love when the world was so unloving to her make her a character you want to root for. And you’re right there with her as she faces the terrors of the castle and the complicated relationships she has within and without those walls. For the most part, though, those tiny things really didn't hamper my enjoyment of the story. This is an absolutely excellent debut.

Some foreign travelers called it “exotic.” Others called it “hell.” The second was accurate, heat-wise. But to look at it? Heaven. Salt and iron crusted the land in yellow and rust, making the desert look alive with magic. But even a wonder like that wasn’t enough to get travelers to pass this way, not anymore. But material possessions, especially too much money, seemed to be the worst offender. Most of the clients Jember and I saw were people who insisted on having too many nice things in their house. Or, in the case of the man I was on my way to see, more money than any one human should be allowed to possess. Andi and Jember have a complicated relationship, which is on full display over the course of this story. No matter how much she seeks his love and acceptance, she never seems to get it. GOODREADS, "The Most Anticipated YA Books of October" and "The 36 Most Anticipated Upcoming YA Novels" Well, you can take that up with Mr. Rochester. Until then, don’t turn yourself into some great lady and start making your own rules.” She opened a door a few feet from the top of the stairs. “This will be your room. You really should be downstairs with the servants, but Mr. Rochester wanted you down the hall from him. It’s small, but you don’t seem to have much, anyway.”It didn’t matter that the curse was confined to the walls of the castle, that the desert was perfectly safe if you knew how to traverse it. When it came to the Evil Eye, it was better to be safe rather than sorry. I was getting paid to cleanse the house of the Evil Eye, not of dirt, but I would argue that point with Mr. Rochester. “Four people taking care of such an enormous house?”

Dancing dust and shadows looked like ghosts come to protest our intrusion. But there was nothing to fear here . . . only memories. Those could only hurt you if you let them. She spends her entire life trying to emulate Jember, which makes sense considering he’s both a father-figure and one of the best debteras to ever live, but she soon realizes that what works for him simply does not work for her. I love that Andromeda is self-aware enough to realize this without someone like Magnus or Jember having to tell her. She has no problem speaking her mind and fighting for what she believes in, even when she’s fighting against someone much older and more experienced.
