And despite a couple maybe not quite hitting the same theme as the rest of the book, I consider the book on the whole quite a success. From typical frat pack fare such as toasted sandwiches, shepherd’s pie or pimped packet ramen to a lobster roll (containing almost half a kg of fresh lobster) and chicken confit, this recipe collection is eclectic, drawing from a wide enough range of affordability and cultures to be of interest to a cross-section of cooks. One thing I particularly like, and I don’t know whether to credit the author or the publisher for this, is that every single recipe in the book is accompanied by an attractive full-page illustration so you can see exactly what each dish is supposed to look like.

Lukas Volger, co-founder of award-winning queer food journal Jarry and author of the popular cookbook Snacks for Dinner (a pretty self-explanatory title, I think), is back this month with a reissue of his obsessive loving spotlight on veggie burgers. Yes, he’s drop dead gorgeous, and the first one or two times the knife hits the chopping board in one of his reels we take a short gasp, but after that, we feel more blasé than entertained. Containing over 100 recipes, Nick urges young cooks to have a go, be fearless and build their tool kit of recipes and techniques from homemade staples up.

Home-cooked food doesn’t have to be over-the-top, fussy, or time-intensive to be absolutely amazing. Steak glistens, honey drips off the buttermilk fried chicken and a ranch wedge salad is photographed on a broken plate (explained in the photo’s caption).Obviously everyone’s tastes are different so no cookbook ever manages to be 100% for anyone (except perhaps its own author), but this one is closer aligned to my tastes than most.

This new honey-centric cookbook is less Pablo Honey and more “ Honey” by Robyn, which is to say that it will make you horny for one of nature’s greatest delights. The instructions are simple, and DiGiovanni's light humor ("I'm convinced nuggets taste better in dinosaur form," he says of the dino chicken nuggets) and anecdotes ("My grandpa taught my brothers and me to catch blue crabs when we were little, so this dish always reminds me of him," he says of the crab and artichoke dip with Old Bay crostini) add charm. My son loves this YouTuber and asked me to read his cookbook and review it, so of course I said yes! An additional section showcases recipes created in collaboration, including hot honey lemon pepper wings developed with foodie influencer the Golden Balance and Lynja Davis's compost cookies.

With millions of followers on social media, young home chef Nick DiGiovanni believes that anyone can be an inventive cook. Celebrity chef and social media star Nick DiGiovanni joins “GMA” to talk about recently breaking a world record with chef Gordon Ramsay. Naturally, there’s also a massive list of salads, sides, and condiments (in case you’re too good for mayo and mustard). Anyway, DiGiovanni was a sympathetic and legitimately watchable contestant on MasterChef; he didn’t win the show, but he did win the long game by going viral, securing over 11 million followers on TikTok and almost 2 million on Instagram—so it doesn’t seem like he’s sweating it. Just one look at the table of contents tells us that we’re not talkin’ about the bean burgers, soy isolate patties, and grilled portobellos your uncle makes fun of you for eating at family barbecues; no, this bad boy features recipes for everything from baked falafel burgers and spicy peanut and carrot burgers to seitan burgers with mango barbecue sauce.
