My preference was always for the HD540 Reference II model, as it sounded better overall to my ears and the velvet pads were straightforward to cut open and install handmade foam rings then stitch up if desired. On Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild,” the kick drum loop receives plenty of high-mid presence, allowing its attack to retain its punchiness. The lowest audible frequencies (20Hz-50Hz) can be heard with grain-less clarity without any straining. The outer ring of the German version is made of metal whereas the Ireland version is made of ash colored plastic.

There’s also a small LED light here, next to the button-strip, which flashes blue when powering on and pairing, glows red when charging, or flashes red when you’re low on juice. I also use the original HD 250 Linear headphones (which are over 20 years old, both 300 ohm and 600 ohm variants exist) where the drivers are incapable of providing the extension of the Linear IIs so they sound brighter. However, the pair delivers a frequency response range of 20Hz to 22,000H and an SPL (Sound pressure level) of 10db.

However, I know many who dislike coiled cables as they tend to exert a 'pull' on the headphones -- it's up to the user to make up their own mind about which approach suits them best. Linear II challenges a lot of top of the line dynamic headphones today be it open or closed in the higher frequencies.

PCMag is obsessed with culture and tech, offering smart, spirited coverage of the products and innovations that shape our connected lives and the digital trends that keep us talking. When it comes down to listening band performances consisting of 3-9 pieces, it is easy to make out which player/instrument is where and the space they occupy to play. The user interface is inuitive, making it easy to access the adjustable EQ presets and firmware updates. Recharging is via the USB-C socket at the bottom of the right earcup, which is also where you’ll find the extremely brief selection of physical controls.

The audio output isn't super bad, it's just that we expected slightly better audio output in which Sennheiser has always mastered.

The sub-bass synth hits that punctuate the beat are audible, but we get more of their top notes and some of their bass depth, but less of their truly deep subwoofer-like deep frequencies. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea but there are people out there who might like/dislike this sound signature. This model has excellent sound quality, producing a full and clear sound that will please even the most critical listener. The midrange, always so crucial in making any pair of headphones sound realistic and convincing, is open and properly focused – so voices sound poised, naturalistic and character-packed.

Sennheiser HD 250BT Review | PCMag

If you pair them with a bright (or low-end) source they might show too much of the flaws present in some recordings (or the source itself) but with the current setup I have no complaints, they are excellent. It is great for rock pop and electronic music or any kind recording which is bass-shy (or the opposite, driven by the bass) but not ideal for smoother music. When an old Koss j'tais teenager, something that must have weighed 25 kilos (well OK j'exagre a little bit) with its silent trs trs but enjoyable round. Orchestral tracks, like the opening scene from John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, get a fairly flat response treatment through the HD 250BT. So, the noise isolation function stands out because it successfully muffles ambient noise, allowing listeners to lose themselves in their chosen soundtrack. This technology reproduces a flat frequency response in the diffuse sound field of the reverberation chamber when sound waves from all direction hit the transducer.
