At first glance I thought that this graphic novel was going to be a straight retelling of the film, but instead to my surprise it was a sequel. I tend to be a little iffy about sequels after such a long period of time after the initial release of a movie, but I figured because it was in the format of a graphic novel I would give it a go. It should be noted that my husband doesn't like to read, and has been somewhat reluctant to read comic books. When we read this one and we got near the end he exclaimed "No! It can't be over. I want the rest of the story. I want to read it all right now!" After finishing it and discussing it and looking at some of the pictures again he told me "This is the comic book that has made me love comic books. I need all of these." One evening, an elderly woman tells her granddaughter the bedtime story of a young man named Edward who has scissor blades for hands. In this series we have moved forward in time by 2 generations. Kim had a daughter called Milly and a granddaughter called Megs. It's from Meg's point of view that we rediscover Edward, experience the sadness of Eli's demise, the suspense of Phil's kidnap and ultimately the discomfort of the 'fixing' of Edward by the evil Dr Well's.Overall, the plot was simple and straightforward. I found it interesting, but it didn’t totally captivate me. I enjoyed the characters and I am definitely looking forward to learning more about them in the next volume. Based on the classic Tim Burton movie and featuring the hauntingly beautiful music of Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, Bourne and his New Adventures Company return to this witty, bittersweet story of an incomplete boy left alone in a strange new world.

New Adventures, Martin McCallum and Marc Platt are delighted to announce that Edward Scissorhands, devised, directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne will return in 2023. Johnny Depp to reprise Edward Scissorhands role... on 'Family Guy'! -- EXCLUSIVE | EW.com". Entertainment Weekly. I love that the story kept it's ties to Kim and her family. It wouldn't be the same without some mention of her character. I love that it stayed true to the character of Edward. In the film he is very soft spoken, innocent and shy. He is obviously also very misunderstood. The dialogue between Edward and Meg was great with her doing most of the talking and his response being no more than a sentence. The illustrations were also pretty great, some frames were a bit hectic and hard to understand for me, but for the most part it felt very much like Tim Burton. I loved the idea of being able to see what happened after the events of the film. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone praised the piece by stating, "Burton's richly entertaining update of the Frankenstein story is the year's most comic, romantic and haunting film fantasy." He continued by praising Depp's performance, stating, "Depp artfully expresses the fierce longing in gentle Edward; it's a terrific performance" and the "engulfing score" from Danny Elfman. [39] Staff of Variety spoke highly of the film, "Director [Burton] takes a character as wildly unlikely as a boy whose arms end in pruning shears, and makes him the center of a delightful and delicate comic fable."
