Along with atmospheric views of the deep loch's swirling waters and long, low hills beneath cloudy skies, Ilincic crafts a particularly magnificent monster, green, scaly, and dragonesque. The most famous photograph was taken the following spring, when a London gynaecologist named Robert Kenneth Wilson snapped what became known as “The Surgeon’s Photograph”. We got a copy about 4 years ago for our daughter before we visited Loch Ness and even though she's 8 now, she still reads it from time to time. This beautifully told traditional tale is based on a lake legend originating in 1883 and feels respectful and authentic in every way, from the Scottish brogues and terminology to the freckled faces and red hair of the protagonists.
