Even though we might be into certain things, there are real world implications for it, and this book just kinda got me thinking, which is something I wasn’t really expecting it to do. Unfortunately, despite the nod to Babitz, her mischievousness and humor are mostly absent in this book. it’s about love and sex, gender and power, and how to find yourself or even know what that would look like.

Her sex writing, in particular, is sexy and disturbing, just as it should be given the circumstances. i definitely take issue with the fact that these kinds of novels are portrayed as "relatable" for all women. I can’t believe this well written story of Acts of Service, by Lillian Fisherman’s is her first novel. But, from my perspective, she never really succeeds in going beyond a superficial examination of the topics she introduces. The portrayal of Eve’s absorbing anxieties would make for excellent satire if it weren’t taken so seriously, if any other character could pierce through her strange and moralizing ways. Uno strumento per andare alla scoperta, verso la conoscenza di altri corpi umani, e quindi di altre anime. That’s the only way her exploration of two queer women’s simultaneous experience of love and sex with the same man makes a lick of sense.

Not much actually happens until quite near the end when finally it appears there's some kind of point to the book. instead, i found myself highlighting swaths of text, almost buzzing with that oh my god is this is a five star this might be a five star feeling, resonating with the emotions depicted and stunned by how lovely and clear the writing was. I listened to this on audio, it had a reader I've enjoyed before and she was a good fit for this one. Despite having a steady partner, paediatrician Romi ,she seeks some excitement and posts nude pictures of herself online. An evocative exploration of desire and sexuality, this dark debut will cause readers to question the very nature of consent.I would just like to say straight away that I will read anything else that Lillian publishes in the future. Disturbing, erotic, completely compulsive; quickeningly captivating, provocative in ways that I am still turning over. It also demands generosity, and Fishman is clear that what is so sanctifying about Eve’s sex with Nathan is that he has no obligations to her – that she receives pleasure from him as a sheer superfluity, as a gift. it cleverly explores sex and sexuality in a way that is not only addictive to read, but also self-contained and philosophical.
