Obviously it's a setup. Laure is dead and the killer nearly murders Elin. But that doesn't stop her from prancing off a SECOND time a couple chapters later to confront the killer, by herself, without telling anyone, without a weapon. (Have I mentioned how “brilliant” Elin is yet?) After talking to Ceclie, Elin realizes who the killer is. She rushes to the pool area where she finds Lucas, injured. This was especially painful for me as I realized in the prologue that, as long as we aren't dealing with a crazy person left over from the Sanatorium, the killer had to be Lucas or related to him in some way - Daniel mentions that he Lucas are fighting (making you suspect Lucas, of course) and is murdered prior to the hotel being built.
