If you sat close at tea you could smell another person, and it would cover any stink, but you know, it was another time. When sprayed underneath and on clothes I get slightly longer wear and this delicious airy effect which I look for in colognes. Citrus is a little synthetic, not quite the froot loops scent but it definitely doesn't smell "expensive. The risk of being generic is that you can encounter this smell from a variety of places, including toilet bowls.

My mother always used this 4711 eau de cologne and now, being 91 yrs old, am following in her footsteps (and loving it) as it's a lovely fresh smell to have around. Being now in Germany, of course, I couldn't stop adding to my collection, again because I already had it in the past, a bottle of this cologne. What makes 4711 Original Eau de Cologne so special is the careful selection of high-quality ingredients and essential oils. Before the alcohol dries away, I get gin, but that kinda doesn’t count, immediately after it dries away I’m hit in the face with citrus, lemon and orange, very bright, with a tinge of green neroli. Soon there were other "Eau de Colognes", that used the name "Farina” and Farina had to fight against plagiarism.

There is a touch of bitterness here that stays light-handed and doesn't go into deeper, oily bitterness (I'm thinking cocktail bitters). I also find this to be perfectly unisex as it doesn’t lean feminine or masculine and for being the oldest cologne out there I didn’t expect this to smell as modern.I use the pure one rather exceptionally, usually in combination with something stronger or straight some Colonia from AdP.
