In Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 versions), the Guitar Hero X-Plorer Controller, along with the Wireless Les Paul Controller, can be played like real guitars. After waiting a few weeks for the board to be manufactured and the components to arrive, it was finally time for assembly. I recommend removing the 11 screws from the body first, as you can remove that without removing the neck, so if you only need to get in the body, you can ignore the neck without worry. It’s not a substitute for learning an actual instrument, but it sure is a fun way to indulge in some musical gaming! In this blog post, we’ll go over the pros and cons of the Xplorer Guitar and why it’s become such a popular attachment for music gamers everywhere.

One last thing, I recently opened up an original Rock Band Fender Strat on stream, here’s all the screws and parts I took out! Similarly, many 3rd party controller manufacturers were hesitant to switch to the new wireless systems and only offered their controllers with bulky, permanently attached cables. This means the PCB edge is going to be visible from outside the guitar, but that’s preferable to having to recess the port and use a specific-width USB cable. To accommodate this I created a small offshoot from the board for the port to sit on – just wide enough to fit in the body opening previously occupied by the RJ11 port. In its original configuration with the RJ11 board, the bottom of the port cutout in the guitar body is even with the top face of the circuit board. I didn’t bother with adding a removable connector for this since it’s unused anyways, but this is the one change that is not plug and play for reversing the mod (the wires would need to be stripped and re-soldered). These controllers do not appear as playable guitars in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

While other controllers may have more features or options, the Xplorer Guitar strongly focuses on providing a streamlined, enjoyable experience.Guitar Hero and similar rhythm games enjoyed their heyday in the late 2000s, but the craze has since died down, and the competitive scene has followed suit. xplorer, wont have a chance of random notes not registering, no need to clean connection every day or two, hell every hour lol, also buttons go straight down on the xplorer, but i do prefer the design of the les paul feels more comfortable and doesnt look so cheap and crappy.

The adjustable strap included with the Xplorer Guitar ensures that players can find a comfortable fit. The guitar keeps things simple with two additional buttons for in-game menu navigation: Start and Select. If you, like me, answered “2 mm” without thinking it through then you may also need to redesign your circuit board. Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. its wired, so you dont have to worry about batteries, its one piece so it isnt as likely to have faulty connections, and less of them are known to be faulty in general.also, its got button spacing much closer to a SG ps2 controller, so when i go back and play GH1 and 80s i dont have to adjust to the buttons.

Although at first glance it looks like there is a female header on the board, these pins are in fact soldered directly to the main board with the plastic housing just holding them together (a “board-in” connector). The ribbon cable has no polarity indications, but if I ever want to reinstall the port there are silkscreen pin identifiers on both the main PCB and the daughterboard. It is also the only guitar controller officially supported by Aspyr Media (developer of the PC and Macintosh releases). Some Guitar Hero players dislike how skinny the neck is compared to the Wireless Les Paul Controller, while others find it more comfortable.

Of course, it’s not a full-sized instrument, but the attention to detail in the design makes it a visually pleasing alternative for those looking to rock out in the virtual world. The vertical ports are also longer, so the edge of the PCB could in theory be recessed back into the guitar. This allows the PCB to extend into the opening so that the USB-C port can lie flush with the outside of the guitar body.
