Over the past few seasons, I’ve enjoyed my middle-of-the-pack TX3: an approach shoe with a great combination of breathability. Building on the success of the prior generation, the retooled shoe features a modernized and sleeker upper, updates to the lacing system.

They feature a higher top to support the ankle and provide further protection from snow entering the foot from above. It’s worth noting that all of this toughness likely contributes to the overall stiffness of the shoe described above. The Terrex Swift R2 GTX are also lightweight, making them easy to move around while hiking or walking in difficult terrain. In addition, the areas along the balls of the feet protrude with even more rubber, creating zones of extra protection on the inside and outside of the foot. You get the same features and material – the only difference is the amount of ankle support or weight between the different versions. A low-cut, durable upper with speed lacing supports your feet on uneven ground, while a Continental™ Rubber outsole sticks to wet and dry surfaces. If you explore challenging conditions, then these tough leather boots give you everything you need from support, protection, and performance. Both feel relatively stiff underfoot yet hike well, offer excellent protection around the foot for moving off-trail and over rocky terrain, and cost around the same.

It is one the easiest ways to get outdoors for people of all experience levels, and simply put, any time spent on the trail has a way of soothing the. The Adidas Terrex Free Hiker Primeblue shoes are one the lightest and best Adidas hiking shoes on the market. In addition to stability (covered below), perhaps the single biggest upside of the Terrex Swift R3 is protection. However, in testing the mid-height version of the Aerios, we found that the low-profile lugs don’t dig particularly well into softer surfaces like mud and snow—the Adidas wins out here—and also had issues with the overly simplistic lacing system (for more, see our in-depth review here). If you’re hiking in hot, dry places and can easily let your shoes dry when wet, the non-waterproof model likely is a better bet.Users say that they can walk long distances with ease and are happy to put these on whenever they need something a little more suitable than a sports shoe. Those with wider feet will be able to fill them out and benefit from their supportiveness, while those with narrower feet will find the laces hard to tighten and attain a secure fit.

The Adidas Swift R2 GTX is a versatile and durable hiking or outdoor shoe that is perfect for both men and women. The standard continental rubber outsole provides exceptional grip, and the responsive Boost cushioning in the midsole platform makes walking less energy-sapping. The mid boot option is better if you intend to carry heavy loads on rougher terrain as it provides more support and structure for your foot. The Adidas Terrex Swift R3 Gore-Tex is a robust hiking shoe that will chew up the miles spent in cross-country and off-trail terrain. The mid hiking boot style of these Adidas hiking boots provides more support around the ankle area whereas the Adidas hiking shoes have a sneaker shape.Still, it will take much longer to break in these stiff uppers than most models that are ready to go pretty much right out of the box. Plus, because this shoe is made from recycled materials, it’s an environmentally friendly choice that will help reduce pollution levels in the world.

Adidas uses the latest materials and construction techniques to reduce the weight and give you more energy to go further. After putting some pretty demanding miles on it in Patagonia, there aren’t many signs of wear underfoot, which is promising for long-term durability (and I haven’t had any issues crop up since my initial test). However, these shoes look like they could be a nice blend of a more trademark Adidas model and something a little better suited to hiking. Fit ran a little big (we'd go down a half size), which made it hard to lock the heel into place on extended climbs and descents.
