The move secures 60 jobs - taking the Perthshire-based firm’s headcount to over 120 - and forms part of a UK-wide acquisitive and organic growth strategy. It also brings the production of its popcorn range in-house. Having a family culture is key to what we do at Taylors, so we wanted to make sure that everyone involved in the business – from technical to tasting – played a pivotal role in the transition.

We’re proud to have built strong retail links with a great range of crisps and popcorn products, listed with the majority of the multiples.” In the meantime, we’re excited to keep making and developing Scotland’s favourite ice cream and our farm-made chocolate on the renewably powered family farm.” READ NEXT: The Scottish region with the most spectacular autumn colours you just NEED to visit this season The new business move will not only add an array of dedicated, talented staff, it will also add to our ever extending range of products. It made sense right away.” The Taylors have now taken total control of the business, which employs around 150 staff in Errol and Yorkshire.

The Taylors, who have farmed in the Errol area for around 100 years, were an integral part of the previous operation. Why? Well, we’re all about listening to YOU, our customers. And you’ve told us you’re looking for something different when it comes to Taylors Crisps. While these flavours were a fun experiment, the demand simply wasn’t there to produce them in high volumes moving forward. But fret not! Their curtain call doesn’t mean they’re forgotten… Inspired by the family’s roots, the new branding is bright and modern, with a distinctively Scottish thistle heading up the Taylors colourful new brand logo.

Mr Taylor added: “The team at Taylors have worked tirelessly to develop a brand identity that perfectly sums up our ambitions and values as a business. It’s a very exciting time for us at Taylors and the new look is just the latest chapter in our story. The business filed for administration on 8 September after struggling in the aftermath of Brexit and the pandemic and, more recently, with soaring input cost inflation and energy bills.

Managing director James Taylor said: “This is the dawn of a new era for us as a brand and business. We’re very much the same great product – just with a new family name. As the saying goes, ‘all good things must come to an end’. And so, these historic flavours have taken a bow under our Taylors brand, exiting stage left, to thunderous applause. Production of the existing crisps will continue at Errol but will transition to a new brand in mid-2023 that will reflect the Taylor family’s ownership. Taylors’ popcorn will be produced at South Yorkshire Foods’ existing factory, which uses traditional means of cooking popcorn in large kettles. South Yorkshire Foods produces 12 tonnes of popcorn per day at its factory to supply a host of supermarket and wholesale customers, including the ‘Big Night In’ range for the likes of Asda, Iceland and B&M.MD James Taylor said the addition of the popcorn manufacturing business made for “a really exciting time” to be at Taylors. The Yorkshire firm currently produce 120,000 bags of 100g popcorn every day from its Sheffield factory, which has been earmarked by Taylors as an ideal location for delivering light and bulky goods to hungry consumers across the UK.
