The AeroGarden Harvest Elite offers an automated watering system and advanced settings to justify its high price tag. Featuring 20-watt, high-efficiency LED grow lights, this kit maximizes photosynthesis and plant growth. It also includes six gourmet herb seeds: Genovese basil, curly parsley, dill, thyme, Thai basil and mint–each in its own pod. For optimal nutrition, a bottle of Miracle Gro Plant Food is also included. To top it all off, the manufacturer promises to replace the seed pods for free if they don’t sprout in 21 days. At Select, we work with experts who have specialized knowledge and authority based on relevant training and/or experience. We also take steps to ensure all expert advice and recommendations are made independently and without undisclosed financial conflicts of interest. Contains a bottle of Aerogarden patented, all-natural plant nutrients – enough for a full season of growth Growing your own herbs can be as easy as you want to make it. The EASIEST way to get started is to grab a “grow your own herb kit” with everything that you need to get started. Grow them on your sunny and warm windowsills to start with and then progress from there. When you’re looking for a herb garden kit, you want to take into account several factors, which we’ve condensed into the following questions to ask

Hair Care Wellness All Hair Care Shampoos Purple Shampoos Thinning Hair Head Shavers Flat Irons Hair Dryers While growing herbs indoors is quite easy, it will take some time to become a skilled herb gardener," says Jokiniemi. "Enjoy the process, and don't be afraid of failure!" How much light does an indoor herb garden need?

Indoor gardens vary in size, price, and growing abilities. The biggest difference among the top kits we've rounded up are the watering and light systems. Certain models use hydroponics, which is a growing system that doesn't require soil and uses less water than traditional growing methods. Each kit has built-in LED lights that provide the light requirements for the veggies and herbs you're growing. Mili Godio is an editor at Select who has covered a variety of gardening articles including pruners, garden hoses. For this article, she interviewed four gardening experts and researched dozens of systems on the market that aligned with their guidance. The great thing about herbs is that most are easy to grow. Still, they’re not quite as low maintenance as succulents, and some require more work than others. If you have a hectic schedule, go for easy-care plants. The need for watering varies depending on the type of herb, the size of the pot, and the indoor temperature, but Jokiniemi says that "a normal watering frequency for indoor herbs is anywhere between three to seven days."

Keep an eye out for any indoor pests. “The sooner you deal with a pest invasion, the better chance you’ll have of getting it under control,” Bawden-Davis says. “Keep in mind that healthy plants tend to ward off pests and diseases, so make sure you’re watering only when the plants need it and provide proper lighting and regular fertilizing.”

This kit does not include pots or seeds, so you'll need to choose your own. Depending on the size of your selected pots, you'll probably only be able to fit three or four types of herbs, but that should fulfill the needs of most home cooks. Thanks to the LED lamp that simulates sunlight, you can choose to grow either light-loving or low-light herbs. Spend a minute or two each day paying attention to your plants. “It’s easy to catch problems when they’re small,” Judd says. “Even ‘no work’ indoor gardens benefit from a caring gardener.”

Garden Republic’s indoor herb kit is adorable. Herbs grow in small burlap grow bags, which fit perfectly into the wooden box the kit is shipped in. This is a great option if you’re looking for a garden gift to give a friend or loved one. The arguable downside to such a complete setup is, of course, the price tag. But if you're especially committed to your herb growing journey, the AeroGarden Bounty is the best you can buy. Before starting your indoor gardening journey, experts recommend considering the various types of growing systems available along with how much time and space you’re willing to dedicate to it. Types of growing systems Match your produce with your environment. Choose a plant that will thrive in your space’s conditions. “Try to avoid plants that benefit from pollination and need to spend some time outdoors,” Frymark says. The Harvy cultivation box, a collaboration between Nelson Garden and Hemmaodlat, is the largest of the kits we tested, measuring around 80cm long and with space for six plants. It’s perfect for a windowsill as the LED light can be fixed to the glass with suction cups and moved up and down as plants grow. The kit comes with six sewn plugs made out of peat and coconut fibre and containing lollo rossa lettuce and Emily basil, and a 250ml bottle of liquid nutrients. There are a variety of other sewn plugs available, or empty ones so you can grow your own. When the plants first sprout, they are very delicate. We accidentally broke the stem of one and it stopped growing, so take care. Once set up, the box does not need refilling with water for around three weeks – much longer than the other kits we tested. However, it is large and heavy, so be sure to fill it when you’ve found a good spot for it. Nelson Garden also claims the box can be used daily for many years, and all elements are recyclable.

As for the temperature, most herbs cannot tolerate an environment that is too cold or too hot. The sweet spot will be around 65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Botanium is a “smart” plant pot that automatically waters your plants for you several times a day, meaning no over or under watering, and less fuss and more growth. The water tank lasts several weeks, and features a handy window on one side so you can easily see when it needs topping up. Instead of submerging the plants in water, Botanium uses a porous growing medium that retains a lot of water without draining the roots, while also providing an aerated environment for the roots, meaning faster growth and more control. At first glance, the Mindful Design windowsill planter looks like a hydroponic setup, but it's much simpler. The LED-topped narrow frame — just 4.8 inches wide — will sit nicely on a windowsill, a shelf, or your countertop without claiming too much space. When searching for indoor herb growing kits, you’ll find organic and conventional options. If you prefer to grow your herbs organically, it makes sense to choose an organic kit. Make sure that the seeds are USDA Organic if you’re going this route. You may also want to choose a kit that has organic soil. However, there are numerous possibilities for other herbs, too. “The ease of cultivation opens the door to more exotic herbs, as well,” Beausoleil says. “Popular herbs like basil also come in a dizzying array of colors, shapes, and flavors when grown from seeds—much more than the few select choices offered in grocery stores. By growing them indoors, the new gardener opens the door to new possibilities.” It’s important to note that you don’t necessarily need to sit your plants on a windowsill for them to grow. You can hang shelves or use plant stands to keep your herbs near brighter areas of your home. Organic vs. Conventional
