As a result retail prices have risen, sometimes quite dramatically. That’s partly due to pricing policy by the distillery, but also because retail outlets realised they could ask higher prices for GlenDronach that was bottled in certain years — a regretful side-effect of this article. Current State of GlenDronach

Just sublime! I have no other words. It leaves me speechless with wonder; the GlenDronach 18 yo whisky is everything I could dream of in a whisky. Rich, delicious and perfectly balanced. Sherry sweetness, spices and fruity notes all work together to make something bold and smooth.

Prune up front, with more sherry resin, tobacco (shisha), and raw apple cider vinegar. Dry, really, without much of the sugar one would associate with sherry bombs. Raisiny in the extreme. Palate - Rich dark and seductive. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice marry together with classic aged Oloroso sherry and toasted walnut bread combined with chocolate Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I think the GlenDonrach 21 yo whisky should also make an appearance on my tasting lists quite soon. In South Africa the GlenDronach 18 yo whisky retails for around R1 600. On the nose, the whisky is sweet with notes of creamy crepe brûlée, along with notes of dried apple and pear, raisins, a bit of fig and a hint of anise. There are spice notes of cinnamon and raw ginger and a vermouth-like character with just a hint of clove and nutmeg. Distinctive cooked cereal notes emerge as the whisky opens up.

This expression is intended to accompany the 2021 release of The King’s Man, the latest movie in the Kingsman series. The whisky is a blend of six barrels that were matured in Oloroso and PX casks that were hand selected by GlenDronach’s Master Distiller Dr. Rachel Barrie and Kingsman series director Matthew Vaughn. If anyone out there is ever looking to gift me a whisky I will always be happy to see this one show up. It’s the best in the core range and delivers a wonderful experience across the senses. The aroma is sweet and complex with balancing touches of spice. The palate is the same but deeper with some nice cocoa notes and the finish pulls it home. To conclude the original article, I wrote “ Let’s just hope that in a couple of years, when they can finally release whiskies with accurate age statements, they are able to produce the same top quality as they do now.” That hope doesn’t seem to have come to fruition. Sure, some of the single cask releases are still top notch, but also priced pretty much out of everybody’s range. As far as the more affordable releases go: the latest Glendronach Cask Strength Batch #9 was underwhelming. You are responsible for all activities through your account. GlenDronach 18 years Allardice is, without a doubt, my favorite of the core GlenDronach lineup. It’s balanced, it’s complex, it’s interesting and something I want to drink regularly. This is the kind of whisky that appeals to me no matter my mood or the time of year. It’s just a tremendous dram. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. The distillery converted from coal fired stills to steam heat in 2005. It was the last Scottish distiller to switch. Today, among major producers, only the Japanese distiller Yoichi still uses coal fired stills. Sipping deepens the impression of a full-bodied, rich, smooth whisky, at least at first. It’s Sherried and sweet, with the fruity aspect contracting down to figs and raisins, joined by an especially earthy, cocoa-laden fudge note. Coming up later on are notes of oak and pepper, giving the taste a little contrasting bite at the end. The finish rolls off to a woody start, then woody and ashy, then fading to traces of ash as it goes on.On the palate, the whisky has the dried fruit sweetness typical of sherry matured whiskies. There are notes of raisin, prune and apple, candied orange and lemon zest, some peach and tropical fruit flavors, along with anise and spice notes of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. In addition, there are notes of fresh espresso coffee and walnut. This GlenDronach expression is named after James Allardes, the distillery’s founder. It is matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks. GlenDronach offers an exceptional range of whiskies, which for a long time have represented among the best values for sherried single malts. Prices have been steadily going up over the last few years; a reflection of increasing demand as the brand gets discovered and a more aggressive pricing strategy. The GlenDronach is known as one of those distilleries that specializes in Sherry cask aging. Although not as well known as The Macallan or even The Glenfarclas, TheGlenDronach has much in common with them and serves as a sleeper brands for fans of Sherried whiskies.
