And of course, no holiday to Fife would be complete without a spectacular boat trip to the breathtaking Isle of May National Nature Reserve from neighbouring Anstruther. Looking for somewhere to pitch up? Here are a few great places to camp in Scotland: Fort William and Glen Nevis One of the most historical buildings in Scotland, Scone Palace is well worth a visit for its exhibitions, events and outdoor activities. Learn all about the castle, the crowing place of Robert the Bruce and Macbeth and explore the grounds which span 100 acres.
The country's two fantastic main cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh both offer a wide range of cultural delights. Edinburgh is arguably the prettier of the two cities and hosts a number of festivals, including the world famous Edinburgh Festival. Impressive Glasgow is has an edgier arts and music scene – the first class Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum has one of the best collections of art in Europe. Climb to the top of the extinct volcano, Arthur’s Seat which perches above the city and is visible from most places. It’s a relatively easy hike for most and gives you a good view of the city and surrounding area. Scotland also has plenty of museums to keep all ages entertained. Some of our top recommendations include: Head to the awe- inspiring Glasgow Cathedral for a delightful example of Scottish gothic architecture.
Camping in Glencoe makes for an awe-inspiring outdoor adventure. Explore Glencoeby day, and at night, light your campfire to watch the stars. Why not head to one of the glen's famous local inns to hear old tales of clan battles and cows rustling in the surrounding mountains. Loch Lomond Given all that spectacular scenery and open space, it naturally follows that camping in Scotland is a splendid idea: what better way to make the most of all that fresh air and those fine views than to settle right there in the open air? Shortbread, Cranachan and Scottish tablet are among the traditional sweet treats to try throughout your stay. National Parks What makes it such a special place? Well, the friendly folk, the delicious haggis and the cultural delights of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (the biggest arts festival in the world, no less) all go some way towards explaining its unique character… as does the odd dram of local whisky here and there.
There is a wealth of wildlife to see in the country. Highlights include sea eagles and whales from the Isle of Mull, ospreys around Loch Garten, puffins on the Isle of May and bottle nosed dolphins in the Moray Firth. Castles, critters and kiddie adventuresOne of the most scenic rail journeys in the world is on the West Highland Railway Line. Travel along the Glenfinnan Viaduct which was used in the filming of the Harry Potter films, go past Loch Awe to Oban or journey the wilderness of Fort William.
With two national parks and a huge variety of landscapes to explore, Scotland will never leave you looking far for outdoor adventures. If you prefer a theme to your hols, several fine ones suggest themselves. Outdoor types might like to set themselves a munro-bagging challenge (that’s conquering Scotland’s peaks over 3000 feet… although you may need a few trips to get up all 282 of them) or taking a tour of the many gorgeous golf courses around the country. Or how about a scenic road trip on the famed North Coast 500 (or the lesser-known but equally splendid Argyll Coastal Route or North East 250), or a little jaunt around the Malt Whisky Trail?

We absolutely loved it, it's a beautiful part of Scotland. The park was easy to find, clean and tidy, the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful making our stay even better. The accommodation was very clean and spacious making it a home from home. Our caravan was on the seafront and was amazing. We will be returning. Thank you for a lovely holiday." However. This approach has its challenges – not least finding that blissful spot. Suitable stopover points are limited and the best ones are well documented – so you may find yourselves having to drive around for a while in search of The One. It’s worth bearing in mind, too, that a layby that seems quiet when you park up may in fact see a fair amount of traffic later on, and there’s nothing to stop several more vans parking up right alongside you (sure you wouldn’t rather be on a spacious pitch within a peaceful caravan park?) With the all the fantastic landscapes and beautiful sandy beaches on offer, families have loads of options from swimming, cycling, and walking to sightseeing and just relaxing with a picnic. From the islands to the highlands and impressive sturdy cities to remote mountain glens, Scotland is a destination that will blow you away with its incredible natural beauty and fascinating cultural highlights. Forget the kilts, Loch Ness Monster and Irn-Bru, this welcoming country in the north of the UK has strong national identity, a rich history and offers visitors an incredible array of activities and adventures. Don't Miss Uniquely placed on the northern shores of Loch Linne, this touring park truly makes the most of Scotland’s natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy ethereal views of the water and surrounding mountains from their pitch, venture out on a guided mountain walk or even scale the mighty Ben Nevis nearby.
Or how about a Scotland camping tour with a theme? Plot a scenic road trip along the North Coast 500, challenge yourself to complete one of Scotland’s best hiking routes (the glorious 96-mile West Highland Way is a classic) or take a leisurely meander along the Speyside malt whisky trail.
