Sort of expensive, but if you want to splurge on an accessible coffee table book about pregnancy with lots of pictures, this would be a good choice. which is infuriating and isolating for women experiencing bad pregnancy symptoms, complications, or worrying test results. For one, the editors of this book appear to be of the belief that nipples not only need to be freed when it comes to encouraging public breastfeeding but also to demonstrate the way that breasts change in appearance during the course of pregnancy. We love it for its detailed index, which makes it effortless to browse through and find specific sections when you need them. Good for basic information on the baby's growth, changes in the mother's body and guide to labour and birth. Author Milli Hill breaks all those barriers down in her positive birthing book and totally changes the narrative of the approach to birth. We borrowed this book for our first pregnancy and thought it was funny-bad but still bought it for our second pregnancy because reading aloud from the book every day became a valued tradition. One word of caution: some of the tidbits in the book are pretty alarmist (lots of women lose teeth during pregnancy--willing to bet this isn't so common in the developed world). I like to feel involved and reading a page or two each day helps me feel pregnant and to bond with the little baby inside me.

There are many dozens of pregnancy guides available covering everything from multiple births to handbooks for new grandparents. However, pregnancy is such an epic experience, and it’s nice to mark the time by counting down the days, and to take time to think about your baby each day and what they’re up to. There’s already enough to complete on your neverending to-do list before the baby arrives, and the last thing you want is an overload of information that could leave you more confused than before. If you’re feeling apprehensive about it all, joining the hypnobirthing club could be the way to make you feel more confident, and possibly even excited, about giving birth. The book’s pages are divided into different colours on the outside so that you can quickly get to the section you’re looking for.

Although this book does occasionally give over multiple pages to important stages such as the first- and 20-week scans, the format is generally a daily page with a little bit of information at a time. Along with this, there are also overviews of each trimester as a whole, a handy reference section at the end, and it's a very well-designed and approachable text.
