The plot was all over the place. I feel like the core story is really good, but there was so much extra fluff and alternative stuff going on that it detached from the main plot. And when the betrayals and court politics begin to unravel a lot of it seemed random and opportunistic for the author rather than well thought out. These practices can provide a sense of closure and empowerment.

Again, throughout the book i was asking myself over and over again, why this feels so rushed. Why the author didn’t take the time to write more details or more scenes and chapters about certain things. I don’t really know how to say it, because the pace of the main plot was fine, but some things were too fast, while others were to slow. Some worldbuilding elements were thrown in without much explanations, which already bothered me in book one. I think this would have been even bigger and better with more length and details! Because the idea and the plot are so good! AND THE CHARACTERS! 💛 This book is what you get when you take a pinch of Viking lore and mix it with a dash of Beauty and the Beast. From an enjoyment point of view, I did like this but I wish this book was a little longer. It’s short, it’s been a long time since I’ve read a book this short… I think this is what kept it from being great and settling it on just good. There wasn’t enough put into the character development or plot to take it to that next level that it had the potential to be so it feels like it’s missing something. His hair was paler like Timorans, my people. But his skin and eyes glimmered with the unique dark shade of Ettans, the people mine enslaved during the raids.” l absolutely loved reading this book! It's full of plot twists and cliff hangers that left me unable to put the book down once I got to the halfway point. The characters are generally witty, intriguing and their dialogue and interactions with eachother were generally very captivating. The plot was a little bit predictable but I was caught off guard a few times as well. The world building was very unique and interesting and the author did a very good job of describing the scenes in the story in a way that was completely immersive and left me able to invision the setting as though I was there with the MC. The love story between the FMC and her love interest was everything I look for in a fantasy romance. Morally grey mysterious love interest meets stubborn rebellious and undeniably good love interest. Forced proximity. Enemies to Lovers. Forbidden love. High stakes romance. *chef's kiss* Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it kept me very engaged, interested and I could not put it down. It made me feel all the feelings and I would recommend that you read it.

The worldbuilding also seems strange. I still don’t think I fully understand how the Fae and their magic tie into the story or how their magic works. A lot of their history is told, not shown through actual “history lessons” disguised as journal entries. And all I can see when I read the word Ettan is two headed giants, not people who have magic. The name of magic is also called fury but then it is given multiple other names and it becomes blurry. The world building I think needs the most help, this is supposed to have Vikings in it and I’m not getting that at all from this. You can make the characters use Norse terms, braid their hair and carry hatchets into battle, but it doesn’t make them Vikings. Sorry 🤷‍♀️. I don’t buy it. Everything Happened So Fast. In True Game Of Thrones Fashion, The Potential For Character Building And Plot And World Building Was There. But Bam. Rush Through It All And Make It A Letdown. This story is about Elise who is the second daughter of the Kings sister. On the night of her sisters formal engagement to her cousin (the Kings son), the King announces that he is opening up dowry negotiations for Elise. Elise wants nothing more in life than to NOT be married but after the King threatens her deadly-ill father’s treatment she has to accept the negotiations. Due to her fathers health he cannot do the negotiations and the King does not have time to do it either, so he assigns the task to the incredibly gorgeous and mysterious Legion Grey… Legion has secrets (and unknown to her but known to the reader he is cursed) and after events unfold Elise finds herself needing to make an impossible choice that could save Legion but comes with a great sacrifice. The plot was very predictable but it didn’t distract from the fact that I was enjoying reading the story. There is a reason I read books with the same tropes constantly, so it’s almost expected on some level I know what is going to happen.

Book Genre: Fae, Fairies, Fantasy, Fantasy Romance, Fiction, Magic, Paranormal, Retellings, Romance, Young Adult, Young Adult Fantasy She’s the only hope to break a curse on Legion, whom is handsome, dark and mysterious. She falls in love with him and finds out he may not be who he appears to be.The Curse of Shadows and Thorns, while not a concrete, tangible curse, symbolizes the feeling of being trapped by misfortune. Belief in curses is deeply ingrained in human culture, but it is essential to approach such beliefs with a balanced perspective. Self-Reflection and Personal Growth: Examining one’s life choices, thought patterns, and behaviors can be a powerful step toward breaking the cycle of perceived curses. Personal growth and self-improvement can lead to positive transformations.

When her uncle holds the life of her deathly ill father over her head, reluctantly, Elise puts her fate into the hands of Legion Grey, the handsome and mysterious dowry negotiator. He may be arrogant and infuriating, but soon Legion incites a blistering, forbidden passion she can’t ignore. My only big issue with this book is that the end of the book felt almost too rushed and I feel like they should have added more to almost every scene at the end of the novel. There were some BIG plot moments that I felt fell flat because they just weren't given the time or wordcount they deserved in the story. Well this book got me out of my book slump. It is so well written and the characters are just perfection. I will say that the FMC does make some really dumb decisions BUT She does them in a way that you can relate to As a younger coming of age adult. Nunca hay suficientes libros de fantasía con faes, así que en cuanto supe de su publicación automáticamente se ha convertido en un libro que tenía que leer sí o sí y la verdad es que me gustó mucho. The Curse of Shadows and Thorns is a symbolic representation of a malevolent curse. While this specific term may not be widely recognized, the idea is universal. Curses, hexes, and enchantments have existed in cultures worldwide, often embodying the darker side of human belief in the supernatural. Long Ago, Elise’s Ancestors Stole The Crown From The Fae King. As The Niece Of The Brutal, Current King, Her Purpose Is To Do Whatever Is Asked To Ensure Her Family Keeps The Throne For Centuries To Come. The Trouble Is, Elise Would Rather Sneak Into Gambling Halls With The Servants Than Be A Silent Princess At A Ball. Fulfilling a dangerous request from Valen’s imprisoned brother. Destroying a prophecy of fate kept in the hands of Elise's brutal sister. And an unwilling alliance with a shadowed thief from a neighboring kingdom that might end in victory or more death. The world building is still really good and the fighting scenes were epic. The excerpts of Queen Lilianna’s journal were a nice touch to help develop the history of the land. I was just very disappointed after all this build up tension, and all these cute encounters, to find the spice scene being like all other spice scenes in all the other spicy books.
