That sort of power would have been revered, even exalted, if either of them had been singularities—which, for the first time, they would be.

The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake - Book Trigger Warnings The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake - Book Trigger Warnings

The lessons the characters had could get a bit too lofty and philosophical for me (and fortunately some of the characters also agreed with me on this), but it really inspired some questions for me and characters about their capabilities, and had me yearning to know more about the extent of their power. That had been the day Libby accidentally set fire to the lining of several centuries-old drapes in the office of Professor Breckenridge, dean of students, clinching both Libby’s admission to New York University of Magical Arts and her undying hatred for Nico in a single incident. A cocktail of magic, the mythological and depressing capitalism that plagues the modern world, Blake presents a us with an unpredictable narrative and characters we probably do not want to admit that we connect with. Less reassuringly, Nico had followed her line of sight, half a tick of laughter tugging at the corner of his mouth. Libby Rhodes and Nicolas Ferrer de Varona: inseparable enemies, cosmologists who can control matter with their minds. The Atlas Six is a dense, complicated story that’s heavy on the character work and light on the plot until the last third or so of the novel kicks things into incredibly high gear, you’ll spend a lot of time simply hanging out with these characters and digging into what makes them tick. A revised and edited edition of The Atlas Six with brand new illustrations hit shelves this week ahead of the release of the sequel The Atlas Paradox this Fall and let’s put it this way: The time to get on this fantasy hype train is right now. He could pretend at nonchalance as much as he liked, but she knew he never enjoyed losing to her, whether he considered it a subject of importance or not.I think many readers will love this book, and even those that are apprehensive about character-driven stories should give it a go. The prose was so pretty and the characters so interesting, I’m so invested in this world and excited for the sequel. Nico and Ezra had loathed each other during the two years they’d all been at NYUMA together before Ezra graduated, which happened to be a separate matter from Nico’s opposition to her. Barring any accidental encounters, which Libby was certain they’d both furiously ignore—Manhattan was a big place, after all, with plenty of people ravenously avoiding each other—she and Nico were finally going their separate ways, and she would never have to work with Nico de Varona again.
