a b c d e Vaughan, Brian K.( w),Staples, Fiona( a)."Chapter Thirteen" Saga,no.13(August 2013).Image Comics. I realized that making comics and making babies were kind of the same thing and if I could combine the two, it would be less boring if I set it in a crazy sci-fi fantasy universe and not just have anecdotes about diaper bags... I didn’t want to tell a Star Wars adventure with these noble heroes fighting an empire. These are people on the outskirts of the story who want out of this never-ending galactic war... I’m part of the generation that all we do is complain about the prequels and how they let us down... And if every one of us who complained about how the prequels didn’t live up to our expectations just would make our own sci-fi fantasy, then it would be a much better use of our time. [13] [17] Writer Brian K. Vaughan signing a poster for the series at Midtown Comics in Manhattan a day after the first issue's release

While the book works as a poignant love story and an indictment of prejudice, trippy visuals and clever dialog make this Romeo and Juliet space opera a lot of fun as well.” — Library JournalI’m thoroughly hooked now. That was the moment I got the entire series. Because there’s no way I won’t want to finish. White, Brett (June 20, 2016). "'Saga' Action Figures Anchor New Wave Of Skybound SDCC Exclusives". Comic Book Resources. The eighth Volume, "The Coffin", finds the family dealing with the effects of Alana's miscarriage after the events on Phang. Vaughan stated in an interview that Petrichor would continue to play an important role in Hazel's development, and that what has happened to The Will is another subplot explored in the arc. [53] My only real complaint is that there's a lot of nudity, which I don't generally mind, but some of it felt gratuitous. It wasn't all necessary. However, I did really appreciate that the women weren't overly sexualized, and that the amount of female nudity and male nudity was pretty balanced. It was also pretty body positive, and showed things like stretch marks on a character that had given birth as well as a variety of body types. a b Hennon, Blake (July 20, 2013). It's a space romp that follows a fugitive family from their very first moments as such. There’s gruesome violence, explicit language and a large amount of gratuitous nudity, so it’s not one for the kiddy-winks no matter how aesthetically pleasing it may be. Plus copious swearing, gratuitous nudity, well-aimed violence. And, in the midst of all that, overpowering adorable cuteness, vulnerability and love. Which is not to say that there isn't lots to like here. The central characters are extremely endearing, and the sheer imagination involved in creating these disparate peoples, worlds and adventures is magnificent. We have intergalactic bounty-hunters, a race of television-headed royals, subaquatic journalists, hatching eggs the size of planets, lupine abortion clinics, and a dozen other things less easy to describe. Sometimes these coexist uneasily with a more terrestrial, even parochial idea of what constitutes Big Issues (corporal punishment is bad, trans rights are important, etc.), but on the whole the ambition is impressive.a b c Vaughan, Brian K.( w),Staples, Fiona( a)."Chapter Twelve" Saga,no.12(April 2013).Image Comics. In October 2017, Image Comics announced the introduction of Pop! Vinyl figures of Lying Cat, Alana, Marko, Izabel, Prince Robot IV and The Will from Funko and Skybound Entertainment, available in February 2018. [115] In other media [ edit ]

Alana and Marco are coming to terms with the reality of life as a family of fugitives and trying to define what a sustainable long-term future looks like for themselves and little Hazel while simultaneously dealing with the grief of recent events. a b c Johnston, Rich (February 5, 2016). "Saga Appears On The Big Bang Theory Over *That* Cover… (Art Ops UPDATE)". Bleeding Cool. The secondary characters are also great. The plot follows several different groups like Game of Thrones, so you'll switch between the main group, bounty hunters, a royal family, etc. They've all got their own agenda, it's all intertwined, and none of it is boring. There is also excellent representation in this book. There are a wide variety of skin tones, gender expressions, and sexualities in the cast, and I thought it was all done really well.
