Description

Inside the JOYO you will find cab boxes inspired by world class vintage and modern Cabinet speakers amps: We've already written several times in the last few weeks about Joyo's new R Series including the R-o1 Tauren Overdrive and the new OMB looper. Now the R series is to be expanded further with the R-08 Cab Box, a handy cab simulator that uses Impulse Responses and even lets you load up your own. The Nux can handle the "hot" signal of a PA feeding a cab... but I've not tried it with a master @ 6/10: if I ever do that (when live gigs will be possible again), I think that I'll put a DI box with a padded output between amp and Solid Studio. Connect to PC through USB, and use matching software to edit tones and update firmware, load or delete third party IRs. More interface and much bigger screen with more buttons compared with similar products. User-friendly

Cosmetically, of course, it's a bit "bling bling" with these shiny chrome plastic pots and this Las Vegas style peripherical green light (I've disabled the light: no need to pay more electricity for that). This is an excellent new entry from Joyo in their new "R" series and they just keep getting better as all innovative companies should. Update - The latency is actually quite higher with the Joyo Cab Box than with the Nux Solid Studio... The Joyo Cab Box features XLR, headphone, MIDI and USB connectivity, so has most bases covered for recording and live scenarios. The unit has the same ambience lighting effect as the rest of the pedals in the R-Series and looks like a lot of value for the asking price. The demo video below gives you a good overview of what this pedal can do. Personally, I think this is a pretty well thought out piece of guitar gear and can see many players getting a lot of use from one. The JOYO Cab Box has a straightforward and user friendly interface that fits on the pedalboard, it offers full configuration and eliminates complex menu options found on amps, tablets and computers.

The new JOYO CAB BOX is a cabinet modeling pedal, with IR loading supported. It has 4 tube power amp simulations, 20 cabinet models and 11 classic microphone models. Regarding the IR, apart from 20 preset loading locations, it also supports storing 10 third party IRs, you can connect to the PC through the USB, and use the matching software to edit tones and update firmware, load or delete third party IRs. JOYO CAB BOX has more interface, much bigger screen with more buttons compared with rival’s similar products, it’s quite user-friendly. Last but not least, the Joyo + a pair of good headphones = rewarding "amp in the room" feeling , even when the box is fed by a minimal pedalboard without preamp. That's where the param EQ gets useful IMHO.

Hi! Did you notice a high pitched noise in the NUX? I bought it yesterday and while I'm testing it I've noticed some noises, so I record all 3 outs and all of them produce this surrounding 13KHz noise tone. It is higher in amplitude in bypass, but it is with any IR on, different cabs, mics... I just plug my Epi Casino, middle position all volume and tone up and record the 3 outputs. No change with different power supplies, cables, power outlets... Seems worse with the XLR DI OUT. I then tested all my pedals and none of them produce a similar noise, only more or less noise floor.Of course, + 1 about what our admin says. Each connection to a PC can bring noise - and the use of a direct box with audio transformers can be necessary to avoid it.

With the JOYO Cab Box IR loader, in addition to 20 preset saving locations, you can store 10 additional third party IRs, Using the software you can load or delete third party IRs and then apply these to the Cab box emulation.

News:

What is a Tauren? “Tauren are huge nomadic creatures who live on the grassy, open plains of Mulgore in central Kalimdor. Tauren are large, muscular humanoids and bovine in appearance, complete with hooves and horns. Tauren stand anywhere from nine to twelve feet tall”-- so pretty much my height “--and they weigh 650 to 1000 pounds--” that's basically me in the winter.** classic microphone models - adjusting microphone model, microphone type, microphone angle position & distance. I've not yet tried the XLR balanced out nor the MIDI in. I regret the absence of any explanation regarding MIDI settings. Sonically... Well, that's why I've bought this thing: to my ears, the onboard cab sims are realistic and natural, without grainy texture and/or harsh high range. Cabinet modeling pedal, with IR loading supported. 4 tube power amp simulations, 20 cabinet models and 11 classic microphone models. Regarding the IR, apart from 20 preset loading locations, it also supports storing 10 third party IRs

Enough to be annoying in some cases: if I plug a Line Out coming from a tube Power amp to the Joyo, the IR is noticeably delayed compared to the real cab... I'm less convinced by the mic sims: they appear to be mere EQing variations and the related settings have a rather subtle effect at first glance. and this time, it's the Nux which appears to add some reverb/short delay to the sound. IOW, this effect present in Joyo cab sims is somehow present too, in Nux AMP sims. To be honest, I'm not sure to hear it as such: it's the demultiplication of single impulse responses by the amp sim of the Nux which mainly makes me think that Nux has included a kind of reverberation in their power tubes emulation. My frequency analyzer shows this effect clearly (although I won't post the related pic below. Later, maybe). Look, I’m not saying I’m a Tauren, but I will ask you this: have you ever seen me and a Tauren in the same place at the same time? There is a lot to like about this pedal. I’ll revisit this article again after I’ve put in some serious hours with this processor.

It makes this super versatile. Because of this bias control, I can tune in high gain overdrive sounds that I really love and would use, whereas I won’t use a massive wall of sound like modern Marshall sounds, because I just don't play that style of music. But I do love coaxing cool/on the edge of distortion overdrive sounds out of pedals like this. It’s very satisfying. The Uzi does it very, very well.** In THIS case, the difference of latency is "compensated" by the signal path inside the amp and the two IR loaders sound in the same time than the real cab...
