Word of Cinnamon reached the Guardian in 2016 when he started selling out biggish rooms in Glasgow; it rapidly became apparent he wasn’t interested in talking to us, or to anyone else, really. In summer 2015, Cinnamon supported John Power on tour, [14] released another single, Kampfire Vampire, [15] and performed to a large crowd on the T-Break Stage at T in the Park, [6] [3] [16] fulfilling a long-held ambition to play at the festival.

Debut album In July 2017, Cinnamon appeared on the King Tut's stage at the TRNSMT festival (a non-camping replacement for T in the Park) on Glasgow Green, again playing to a sizeable and enthusiastic crowd. He’s often referred to as a ‘people’s poet’ and has chosen to shun the traditional structure of the music industry, something that has earned him a cult following. It’s a kind of ode to my hometown, about people that I've grown up with that are ridiculous characters. His voice – a rich, true rasp that sounds untutored but also unforced – carries the songs through their moments of weakness, but it’s frustrating.

Titled 'Live At Hampden Park', the live album includes songs such as 'Dark Days', 'Sun Queen', Ghost', 'Where We're Going' and the platinum-certified singles 'Sometimes' and 'Belter. Rapper Saweetie got discovered by posting her rap videos on Instagram, where she now has over 13 million followers. Rapper KSI, now known for huge hits like 'Don't Play' and 'Holiday', actually started out on YouTube, with his accounts dating back to 2008! Aged five ’til about ten, you’re in that childlike bubble, everything’s bigger, you're always out playing in the grass and you have no real time constraints. He manages to evoke this nostalgic feeling through his songs and creates a world you can imagine very easily, and that is why I believe he is a special talent. Gerry Cinnamon's songwriting is a bit too tongue-in-cheek for me, and I find the lyrics not very subtle, but I guess that is the point.
