Description

Whitby is a popular spot for tourists and so it’s easily accessible by car, bus or train in England. The year is 1885 and a Russian Schooner ‘The Demeter’ hits a huge tempest and was run aground in Whitby harbour on Tate Hill Sands. And the fashion for headstones during this time period seemed to include a penchant for disembodied cherub heads looking grief-stricken.

Whether you're sending letters to friends, penning your vampire tales, or simply indulging in elegant correspondence, this set captures the essence of Whitby's unique connection to the Dracula legend. Trains to Whitby: Fortunately, Whitby has its own train station, so you can take a Northern Rail service and it will drop you right in the centre of town. If you happen to see a young girl with ringlets in her hair playing on the first floor, she’s not one of the actors, but the resident ghost! Hi Tom, it's not at Whitby - Or, I didn't see it there :( From what I could see the cape sold at auction a while back! Created in a first person walk-through style this film leads the viewer, through a realistic Abbey, adding in mysterious crypts and an altar.Fans of the vampire have a very strong image who Dracula is and as Ian points out, this includes the bustling seaside town of Whitby. We were delighted that so many people embraced the idea and came together at Whitby Abbey, a major inspiration for Dracula, to celebrate the anniversary. The 199 steps actually used to be made out of wood and it was a sign of faith if you could make it to the top.

Coffin chocolates, vampire teeth, blood bags of syrup, count Dracula lollies, and black and red Dracula rock are just to name a few.

There is also the Rotunda museum that houses some of the first geological findings in the area, the UK’s best Fish and Chips at Papa’s and you can take a ride on the Hispaniola pirate ship too. Thompson devotes a chapter to Whitby’s Goths, who bring a lot of colour and character to this seaside resort (see our earlier blog on Whitby Goth Weekend).
