For three decades they were a major American easy listening act, scoring several hits with their versions of movie songs. One has to take what can be given when it comes to ameliorating this film's story, as it is minimalist in its intimacy, and therefore runs the risk of losing reward value, but this sensitive subject matter remains very respectable, in its edgy uniqueness, and in its human factor, carrying powerful themes about big city grime, homophobia and companionship that could be brought glowingly to life. He has a tragic relationship with Annie, disclosed through hazy flashbacks in which they are attacked and raped by a cowboy gang. The film stars Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, with supporting roles played by Sylvia Miles, John McGiver, Brenda Vaccaro, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Salt, and Barnard Hughes. The soundtrack album for Goldfinger knocked the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night off the top of the American charts in 1964, and earned the composer his first gold disc.

The two form a rough alliance, and together they kick-start Joe's hustling career just as Ratso's health begins to deteriorate. In 1998 Barry released The Beyondness of Things, a 'tone poem' unconnected to any film and which he presented as a concert piece. John Barry is the legendary movie composer of such Oscar-winning soundtracks as Out of Africa, Dances with Wolves, not to mention eleven James Bond scores. With Hoffman and Voight losing to John Wayne's iconic performance in "True Grit", Hoffman's performance had to prove a close second. Nilsson's rendition of "Everybody's Talkin'" is poignant and brilliant, the film is often caught with snippets of the tune blowing here and there.A Warhol-like filmmaker and an extrovert female artist approach Joe in a diner, taking his photograph and inviting him to a Warhol-esque art event. With some interesting viewpoints about the late '60s and some impressive direction, especially in bringing the city of New York to life, "Midnight Cowboy" proves why it remains on many Top 100 of all-time lists. John Barry supervised the music and composed the score, winning a Grammy for Best Instrumental Theme.

This sequence incorporates actual Warhol superstars Viva, Ultra Violet, Taylor Mead, Joe Dallesandro, and filmmaker Paul Morrissey. It is tough and good in important ways, although its style is oddly romantic and at variance with the laconic material.Such advertisements, common in the Southwestern United States in the late 1960s and through the 1970s, promoted Eddie Chiles's Western Company of North America. At the 42nd Academy Awards, the film won three awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
