Well this was certainly dark! Domestic noir at its finest with some seriously twisted characters - each one worse than the other. I liked the multiple points of view but wanted to get into the heads of the characters who started off the chain of events a bit more, although to be honest with who I think they are based on perhaps it's a good thing we didn't get to know them too well. Instead it focuses on the effects on the next generations of the family and this was very cleverly done.

Keep It in the Family is an unsettling, compelling, psychological thriller that delves into all the deep, dark secrets people keep even from those closest to them and highlights just how easily the most heinous of evil can often live comfortably amongst us merely hidden behind masks of normality. Renovations and money worries are no longer their only concern because things are about to get much worse. Dun. Dun. Dun. The story. What unfolds is pretty silly(and nasty). A ludicrous premise, we have twist and turns that add nothing to the story and don’t misdirect as it was obvious to me from very early on what was going on. This is exactly the kind of story that I love to devour. A chilling house, a family with secrets, a mysterious figure lurking behind closed doors. Give me more! Marrs gave so much detail and context to this decades-old story that I felt like it was true. And as soon as I finished it, I suddenly had the urge to find a true crime documentary based on the story to indulge in more. This rating pains me. I'm so sorry if you ever see this, John 😭 I'm one of his biggest fans and will forever recommend The One, but this book was just a miss for me. When Mia and Finn buy their first house it seems like the worst thing that will happen is the amount of time and money this fixer-upper will need. That is the least of their problems since what they find in the attic makes this house a crime scene.

My all-time favorite John Marrs book is THE GOOD SAMARITAN, and while this one didn't have that same level of darkness, it was still a twisted, creepy read!If you have this in your tbr read it! If not you’re probably not really missing out on a must-read but I did enjoy this book, it just wasn’t one that left me feeling wowed to where I will be telling my fellow readers to go read it. Since reading What Lies Between Us, I have been anxiously awaiting John Marrs’ next dark and disturbing psychological thriller.

Wow what a book !!! This is everything and more you would want in a thriller dark, uncomfortable and addictive ! I won't give away much about the story, all I will say is get the book to the top of your reading list. I am a big fan of John Marrs and was super excited for a new book and this book was just so so good so many twists and turns I Feel Dizzy!! A chilling book that kept me on the edge of my seat, dreading what is to come yet not wanting to look away. The book is devastating, with horrific crimes inside. Yet is wrote in such a way that had me unable to put the book down, needing to see what happens next.

The character-driven story is told from alternating first-person perspectives. At first, the identity of the narrator is deliberately left unclear: It remains a guess as through which eyes we are looking to see what is happening, and it seems the alternate first person narrator is sharing secrets the other half is not telling.
