Description

Ted Logan is the father of a 7 year old girl and 14 month old boy. A widower for 13 months. Several local woman in his small town of New Harmony, Iowa would marry him but he wants a marriage for convenience and several of the women in town don't seem to take to his children. The bath scene had the potential to be REALLY sexy but the author instead just made Angelica angry and unresponsive and Giles offensively aggressive. And it really didn't help matters to make it so that Giles didn't even remember their first time together!?

The Substitute Bride - Noël Cades

Maybe the author didn't want to be explicit but the sex scenes were disappointing (should probably say "scene" as only one really counted and even that did not feel very romantic!) The room was dark. Only a wall lamp was turned on. But the darkness in the room was nothing in comparison to the darkness on Charles' face.Angelica lives with her cousin Billy, a wealthy gentleman, after the death of her parents. When Billy gets married, Angelica doesn't get along well with his new wife, and she feels like a third wheel, anyway. Brian still wore his usual stony expression. Taking a drag of his cigarette, he said, "Keep a close eye on Clayton Woodsen. I will make his life a living hell!"

The Substitute Bride by Dorothy Mack | Goodreads

Don't look at me like that. It's more than time you learned what it means to be a wife, and I am just in the mood to enlighten you. [...] Well, my love, why aren't you struggling as you did earlier? I'll enjoy taming you, you green-eyed witch."I was pulled in by the description of this story and it did not disappoint! I love the thought of the substitute bride and hopefully seeing their happy ever after. Filled with angst, secrets, deception and strong emotions, once I started I could not put it down! We are constantly being told Giles is cold and sardonic but I felt this wasn't actually shown in his words and actions. I actually thought he came across polite but friendly! I would have preferred him to actually be this dark, intriguing character the author clearly wanted him to be. There isn't much of a plot. It all revolves around Angelica becoming a governess and chaperone and then the "substitute bride". I was hoping for some unexpected twist or exciting event (other than just Giles badly spraining his ankle!) Supporting characters also added to the story and I liked how the ending tied all together perfectly. Loved the epilogue!

The Substitute Bride - Novel Updates

Despite her unwillingness, for the sake of her father and to support her family, she became the substitute for the so called "sister" she had and had to marry a devil named Brian Clark. She didn't dare raise her head to look at Brian. If he realized that she was just a substitute then her life would be in grave danger!I would very much recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a Regency novel, especially ones that have a touch of mystery. Next I will be reading Noël Cades' other regency romance . Fingers crossed that it also has a bonus mystery plotline! An overall amazing read! I really enjoyed this, thank you to Noël Cades for offering me an advanced copy :) Loved loved loved. I was seriously craving a historical read and this just fell into my lap, I was not disappointed. She married her college sweetheart and taught first grade before leaving to rear two daughters, but Janet never lost interest in American history and the accounts of strong men and women of faith who built this country.
