The band on the album had also played with Neil on Harvest: Ben Keith, Spooner Oldham, Tim Drummond, and Kenny Buttrey. I’ve listened to Harvest a couple of times on Qobuz and thought it might be a nice one to start my NY collection on vinyl. Harvest is the fourth studio album by Canadian / American musician Neil Young, released in February 1972 on Reprise Records, catalogue number MS 2032. Its guitars cut deeper on the Reprise pressing—particularly the rhythm parts, conveyed with palpable tube-amp heat and buzz. The lovely Unknown Legend, From Hank to Hendrix, and the beautiful Harvest Moon are among Young's best songs.

After 20 years, Neil Young finally decided to release the sequel to Harvest, his most commercially successful album. The sound, on tracks like 'Old Man' and 'The Needle and the Damage Done,' was Americana stripped down and rebuilt with every jagged edge exposed. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. Time has been generous to Harvest, which features more lyrical depth than its outward romanticism may suggest.

On this number one 1972 album, even the singer’s acquired-taste voice comes across smooth and beautiful – the smash Heart of Gold, with steel guitars and Linda Ronstadt’s backup vocals, is by far young’s most commercial-sounding song. Do yourself and your ears a favour, listen to this remaster on a well set up turntable through a decent . The slightly thin sound of his harmonica on the original pressing also benefits from more weight and impact.Anyway, I’ve been listening a lot to Radio Paradise while working from home and he features fairly regularly on there and that has sort of piqued my interest to explore his (large! Neil Young announces the December 2nd release of a 50th Anniversary Edition of his 1972 album ‘Harvest’. One of his very best and a shoe-in for classic status, Young detoured briefly to the Nashville mainstream. But Chris Bellman’s mastering on the 2009 reissue gives it extra definition that helps clarify the attack. The former effort topped the Billboard album charts for two weeks in 1972 and yielded the hit singles “Old Man” and “Heart of Gold.

Fans of the record will receive a new glimpse into Harvest through the two DVDs included in the box set. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. By contrast, “Alabama” still may come across as an unsubtle retread of “Southern Man,” but it works well as a rave-up. Though I often consider vinyl to be a bit like wine - worn vinyl has probably been thoroughly enjoyed and played often - you could keep vinyl unplayed or wine unopened but in both cases you don’t enjoy it!It's a lovely late '60's folk album with a consistent feel throughout and a sound that set the blueprint for his sporadic 'sensible' albums over the years. The reverb on Young’s voice sounds more vivid and he is placed more securely out in front of the ensemble.

The album features many of Neil’s most popular songs, including From Hank To Hendrix, Natural Beauty, Unknown Legend, One Of These Days, and the fan-favorite title track. That's not the real Neil" barked a particularly discerning Neil Young fan when I dared to suggest that 'Harvest' was my favourite album. Harvest Moon is in some ways a better album, without the orchestral bombast that stifled some of the songs on the first album and boasting a more diverse overall selection of songs. Harvest, Neil Young’s fourth album, proved even more popular than its predecessor, After the Gold Rush.

Also included are three unreleased tracks from the original Harvest sessions: “Bad Fog of Loneliness,” “Journey Through The Past,” and “Dance Dance Dance. The 50th Anniversary Edition Box Sets will be released December 2, 2022 on Vinyl and CD, boasting the original album, three studio outtakes on CD/7” vinyl, an unreleased live 1971 BBC solo performance on CD, LP and DVD.
