Sound quality is excellent. The feature of having a 3 position sound contour setting allows alternatives for boosting the highs and lows to fit the application somewhat, but it is not as flexible as having knobs for highs and lows that can each be adjusted anywhere in a range. I use the contour in the Off position - i.e. flat with no boosting on the speaker - and do my sound shaping on the input signal from a mixer. Sounds great, and I get exactly what I want. You don’t want to be running your speaker at full capacity. Having some extra headroom allows you to not place too much strain on the speaker. This will help prevent you from blowing your speakers.
