The Blazing Mister Sam is another one of those 'Portrait' fragrances which doesn't have a listed Nose. We do know that he arrived to the party in 2018 though. If you know and like the spicy character of Halfeti, with its notes - then Mr. Sam is the same, and if you do not know them, I can tell you that they start very strong with cardamom and almost cake like cinnamon, followed by a peppery feel and then they follow into a goodness of sandalwood with aromatic notes. Outside it suddenly began to rain lightly, yet unpleasantly, and just as suddenly a storm rang at the front door. There he is. Sam. Agitatedly brings the dry, warm spice from outside and apologizes for his unannounced visit. But Sam seems to be a friend from the old days. But he is also a bit rushed, because cumin and pepper are stirring and add to the autumnal serenity. Under his coat he brings out warm waffles. They fill the room with a cinnamon-spicy sweetness and merge smoothly into the warming living room, where a wonderful fire radiates comfort. Please? Nevertheless, the 'feel' of this opening is not dissimilar to that of Halfeti as it is very much a dry mix of spices, and I think it's this dryness, combined with the cedar base note, which is the reason why people link the two.

Or at a wedding to become the compliment magnet of the evening Upon first spraying Sam, my first thought was 'this is like something from Penhaligon's Trade Routes collection!'. The reason for this is that the 'Portraits' have tended to focus around a couple of key notes, whilst this American intruder actually has quite a bit going on in terms of spice usage. In fact, I was quite intrigued to test the chap against Halfeti to see where the similarities and differences were. This desire was only enhanced when I saw people on Fragrantica claiming he was 'the same' as Halfeti. Having tested both perfumes against each other though, I wonder what they're smoking - it's clearly not Mister Sam's tobacco base note!

Good Wednesday to you all. Time for another Penhaligon's review. Let's all say a warm welcome to The Blazing Mister Sam!

Well, everybody loves a stereotype don't they? I'm guessing that Mister Sam isn't going to be one of the lighter scents in this line up given the notes and the description. Let's find out though. Mr. Sam here is the twin brother of Halfeti, also created by Penhaligons under the crafted hand of Mr. Provenzano, I would not wonder if Mr. Sam is also his creation, even if the perfumer´s name is not present here nor on Fragrantica. Hm, wasn't that exactly what I actually wanted? A perfume with which one could identify me without problems? Something that stays true to my line, but still seems special? In a sense, a metamorphosis of my old familiar sweet favorites, only in niche? Yes, it was and is. The fictional storyline of the frivolous Mr. Sam on top of that an absolute win for my dimples. I just can't lie to myself, whether I dislike it or not. According to my nose, this fragrance does not offer much change at the beginning, which will not happen in the next few hours As for the fragrance itself, there are no surprises as long as you've familiarized yourself with the fragrance pyramid. Is it special? Yep, a familiar to me in rudiments, spicy-sweet smell that has been refined and can be compared at least a little with V&R Spicebomb. It's particularly closely related to Penhaligon's Halfeti, but without the oud touch and rose, and a bit sweeter instead (more cinnamon?). In the base notes, the two eventually diverge further and tobacco joins in nicely, giving Mr. Sam a much more masculine face than Halfeti. Wearable for me in all situations, in all seasons. Probably more in cooler times, but that remains to be seen. I would associate Mr. Sam with younger gentlemen who can be elegant, but also like to let off steam, while remaining determined - just like his portrait. However, he also invites you to feel good and brings a certain boost to your self-confidence. Somehow also a small replacement for my Egoist by Chanel, which I like so much, but which is less suitable for everyday wear for me. Not too over-the-top like One Million or the Gaultiers, but also not as prudish as other representatives of the spicy genres. Kind of perfect, at least for me.Does he have to? Definitely not. Sometimes less is more, and that's what has been perfectly erased in this case.

In other words, you should get dressed up for it rather than just being dressed up in loose clothes. This noble drop should be used in style!

You know that nice feeling which we have sometimes for a few minutes when something seems familiar to us but we do not know from where and what is it? But slowly the sun went down and you went home again. Once there, the stove was loaded with wood and a warming fire was lit. Touché! The inner voice has stood up to the utopian notions of the happiness center. And right she is, I am indeed not. I have drifted from searching for a fragrance that matches my still-changing personality to searching for one whose reputation I would like to match my personality to. An important realization for me, because I didn't want something like that. Self-image and foreign image should fit together, at least in this case, that was my goal.
