First quest: the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, is missing his chalice. Not only is this embarrassing. It’s also a potential disaster, since any mortal who happens to drink from the cup will gain immortality. Percy, Annabeth and Grover have to find that chalice and return it to Ganymede before anyone realizes he lost it. These gods . . . they really need GPS tags on their magic items, don’t they? The novel unfolds during Percy’s senior year at Alternative High School in New York — after the action of The Heroes of Olympus, but before The Trials of Apollo. This time around, Percy is not worried about saving the world. He has a much harder quest: getting into college. New Rome University requires recommendation letters from three gods, which means . . . yep, you guessed it. Percy has to run quests to get the letters. (That sound you hear is Percy screaming into his pillow in frustration.) The first task is to help Ganymede, Zeus’s cupbearer, retrieve his golden goblet before it falls into the wrong hands. You see, one sip from it can turn a mortal into a god, and Zeus would not be pleased with that result. Can Percy and his friends Grover and Annabeth find the precious cup in time? And if they do, will they be able to resist its special power? And I loved all the little nods to the past events - very simple, very distinctive, but very much of import to Percy's current journey. I appreciated that the Greek gods included this time around were of limited capacity, but even the trip to Zeus was fabulously done! Each of their adventures were written with great zeal and I really did have a smile on my face as they made their way through the tough waters to get to the ultimate prize. 🏆🏆 And while it is targeted for younger audiences, there is something very nostalgic to this installment. You'll see it with each self-reflection that Percy is enlightened with - that moment that deeply resonates with what is his purpose in life - other than the debt he owes for existing - for being a child of one of the Big Three.' 😔 Dalla prima alla quinta superiore, il campo mezzosangue è stata la mia costante e il mio posto sicuro.

We haven’t nailed down any details, but probably, yes. As I said, the book is meant to be a ‘thank you’ to fans and a celebration of the TV series, so we are timing Chalice to come out shortly before the series airs. (But again, exactly when the series airs has not been determined yet. Stay tuned for that.) When I know more details, I will post them here on my blog! He's a golden drachma if I've ever known one. I can't wait to see where his next search for a college letter will take him.Are you kidding?” He grinned at Annabeth. “A chance to do quests, just the three of us? Like old times? The Three Musketeers!” In the Barnes and Noble Exclusive Edition, the remaining letters of recommendation are shown to be from Apollo, Delphin and Aristaeus. Whatever else you take from this post, we should be able to agree that bullying and harassing a child online is inexcusably wrong. As strong as Leah is, as much as we have discussed the potential for this kind of reaction and the intense pressure this role will bring, the negative comments she has received online are out of line. They need to stop. Now." The original heroes from The Lightning Thief are reunited for their biggest challenge yet: getting Percy into college.

First up: the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, is missing his golden chalice. Not only is this embarrassing (why do the gods keep losing their magical items?), it's also potentially disastrous. One sip from the cup will turn any mortal into a powerful god. And the old gods do not take kindly to newbies. You know you’ve been a demigod too long when you’re flushed out of your school straight into the Atlantic Ocean and you’re not even surprised.” The Percabeth moments were lovely - such a delight to read! You can see how their relationship has become so very solid - so in tune and entwined with each other - with dry wit that comes from Percy knowing in his heart that he and Annabeth are in for the long run - that for a girl who had seen his baby pictures, 'I had no dignity left. Annabeth and I were still together. I figured that was good enough. 💜💜 But, that one moment which caught me completely off guard when it happened! One second, it was all hearts and love and the next, Percy was barreling towards peril - hahaha, whiplash at it's finest! And the best part, was that it was so well-executed that the surprise was totally worth the pay-off! 😅The novel is set between The Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo, during Percy’s senior year. I really love the fact that these are low stakes. I think the readers (at least the ones like me who’ve been on this journey for a decade) have followed so many books and series with pretty high stakes that now we really want our favorite characters to just… chill. Of course, they’re demigods, and as Percy warned us early on, being a half-blood is dangerous. They ain’t getting rest. THE CONTINUITY CURSE

Percy doesn't need anyone else to point that out for him, he knew it when the Gods gifted him immortality and he said no. But this book was a nice reminder that no matter what he does in his life, no matter how many monsters he must fight, the goal will always be to keep going with Annabeth and Grover. How sweet is that? This is meant to be a story about the original trio, Percy, Annabeth and Grover, so most of the story revolves around them. You may hear little hints about what is going on with other characters in Percy’s universe, but for the most part, it’s just the O.G. crew. Zeus' cup-bearer Ganymede responds to the ad, needing help because his chalice of immortality has been stolen and Ganymede needs to recover it before the other gods find out. Percy and his friends investigate Hebe and Iris as potential suspects, and are forced to work around Percy's school schedule. Although both are cleared of any wrongdoing, in exchange for the three cleansing her magical staff, Iris uncovers the true culprit as Geras, the god of old age, and helps Percy, Annabeth and Grover to locate him. Percy challenges Geras to a wrestling match to the death, but ultimately wins by embracing Geras and in effect, old age and everything that comes with mortality, winning Geras' respect and the return of the chalice.

The stakes are not high at all in this book but the fun is still there. There is no imminent danger to the world but maybe to Percy's college applications there is. We see the OG trio unite and it's like they were never apart. Grover, Annabeth and Percy make anything fun. Some of the things they mentioned were clearly meant for nostalgic purposes (I wish they would've included the dam joke). Nope. Middle grade sensibility is where I live, friends. Yes, Percy is older, and so his situation is not the same as when he was twelve. He sounds a bit older in this book. He is thinking about his life in college and beyond. But the tone is still the same, and the content is no more risqué than in the original series. I want the books to continue being suitable for middle grade readers, though readers of all ages are welcome! The mission? Help Ganymede, Zeus’s cup-bearer, retrieve his lost goblet before it falls into the wrong hands. You see, one sip from it can turn a mortal into a god, and Zeus would not be pleased with that result. Can Percy, Grover, and Annabeth find the precious cup in time? And if they do, will they be able to resist its special power? This is a reference to The Return of the King when Frodo gets to Mount Doom with the One Ring, which makes him invisible like Annabeth's Yankees Cap does to Percy, and claims the Ring as his rather than destroying it. Go to areas that people barely visit and collect the chests to get the chalice easier, examples of places are Port Town and Great Tree. Apollo compliments Percy's victories against Kronos and Gaea before going on a tangent and comparing Percy's physique to his own. At the end of the letter, Apollo mentions that Zeus wants to speak with him about something of "critical importance," presumably Apollo's trials.
