Credit subject to status, UK residents only, GAME acts as a broker and offers finance from PayPal Credit. Soulstice really throws you into the thick of the story, where explanations are a luxury drip-fed to you over the course of a fifteen to twenty-hour playthrough. The game is segmented into chapters and the story events often connect an end of a chapter to the beginning of the next, especially if the next chapter is a memory. There are 25 levels altogether which isn’t an issue in itself but my completion time for each level varied between ten and forty minutes. It definitely takes a lot out of you, which is strange considering I never had that kind of experience with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Elden Ring — which I played for well over that 100-hour mark.

It’s like the devs have saved nothing for a sequel, just threw in absolutely everything bar the kitchen sink. Even for that completion time, it was so damn engaging that I felt like I had played it for 100 hours. I can’t tell whether enemies still attack off camera, as they still seem to do counter-able attacks though. Some are great, a lot of them are good, but there are some that are just bad that it hampers your platforming since you can’t tell if you’re actually over a platform or slightly off to the side.

While I did like the combat, I felt that the game throws too many enemies at you at times, especially during the later half of the game.

These challenge rooms will be familiar from many of the Devil May Cry games, warping you away to a separate arena to face waves of enemies under certain conditions where you can win green max health orbs or Lute enhancement orbs. As you move from one fixed camera position to another, the direction you’re moving compensates so that you shouldn’t constantly jump back on yourself. You can go two hours without any meaningful story occurring, and then be bombarded with 40 minutes of non-stop cutscenes and dialogue.
