As opposed to a color your heart activity (where the feelings are separate) the Color Monster’s feelings can be mixed up. Right now they just appear as pictures of each page and the monster is on the top half of one page, while the jars are on the bottom half of the same page.

What you sent looks like a great picture of the resource, but the actual sheets that our students can use would help a lot. By illustrating such common emotions as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and calm, this sensitive book gently encourages young children to open up with parents, teachers, and daycare providers. Overall, I really appreciate how this book tackles the tricky issue of engaging with our different emotions using fun, child-centred characters. I help therapists that work with kids and teens go from a place of stress and survival to inspired and thriving. From music lessons, to lunchtime, to making new friends, the Colour Monster’s first day of school is filled with exciting new adventures. One of my favorite things to tell young people is that f eelings aren’t good or bad– they are just our bodies way of letting us know what is going on in the world around us! The book also emphasizes being able to feel and honor whatever feeling comes up and tell us that it is OK to feel all of these feelings, it is okay to listen to our bodies, and it is okay to cry!

Indeed, on the final page the story doesn't explicitly spell out how the monster feels so children can have fun guessing and questioning what it 'feels' like to be in love! For a lot of the littles (and teens too) that we work with there can be a lot of judgement that comes with anger and a portion of the therapeutic work can go towards decreasing shame about this real, normal, human emotion.

You could ask them to draw a colour monster of their own and colour it in the different colours for their emotions.

Perhaps the children would like to make their own Calm Jar – they might want to decorate their own jars or bottles and decide what colour to make their water (using food dye or petals from flowers). Parents may want to read the story again with the children or invite the children to tell them the story, using their own home-made monsters from last week’s resources.Lo recomiendo académicamente y también, cuando no se sepa explicar el peso de las emociones, lo importante del autoconocimiento y el estar cercanos con nuestro interior. I think it's great to teach feeling identification, but odd to tell kids how to feel about certain colors.
