Description

For example, at the end of his chess game in the first book, he graciously escorts Dervish Grady to the portal to the Demonata Universe, and then tries to rip his throat out moments later. One night, he finds the mutilated bodies of his family and encounters Lord Loss, a gruesome human-like demon who sets his two familiars, Vein and Artery, on Grubbs. I t turns out that he does, to a certain extent, feel pity towards the humans he torments despite them providing him with delicious food.

Next he wrote The Saga Of Larten Crepsley, a four book prequel series to his original vampire saga, spanning two hundred years in the life of the title character. His sadistic side is arguably caused by his biology and unique appetite rather than his actual personality. They are not there just to be stupid to make it seem like teenagers are the only competent people who can see the issue and solve it too.

Lord Loss is a fast paced, brutally executed book filled with gore, friendship and coming to terms with a family curse.

Lord Loss is seen when Grubbs Grady , Kernel Fleck, Bec McConn, Dervish Grady, and Meera Flame temporarily destroy Death's or The Shadow's body. He is described as the cruellest character in the books, and enjoys bringing slow and painful deaths upon humans. But then, by the very end of the book, Grubbs has another great growth of maturity and becomes responsible and interesting again. But once he notices that Lord Loss is feeding off his misery and desperation, he puts on a disinterested façade and storms to victory. Lord Loss also considers lying to be beneath him, seeing it as a petty, human trait and knowing that all lies will be uncovered eventually so he sees no need for them. He loves to cause as much pain, both mental and physical, as he can and needs pain the way a human needs food and drink.

Bill-E tells Grubbs of his belief that Dervish may actually be his father, given how close they were before then, but tells Grubbs to keep it a secret from him, which he agrees.Fourteen months later Grubbs has been caring for Dervish in his zombie-like state, also dealing with the fear that he'll turn into a werewolf. Yet there is no doubt that he has established his own voice that will keep me coming back for more of his books.

This book with it’s eerie, suspense-filled plot and a brilliantly worked plot twist was reminiscent of the best of R. From here, life is never the same but Grubbs finds that there is magic that can fight and defeat the demons, if not Lord Loss himself. However, Kernel saw that their struggle seemed to be a weak facade and believes that Bec has made an alliance with Lord Loss. In many ways, Lord Loss bears a resemblance to a spider: His eight arms and the fact that he sometimes moves by crawling across his webbing all suggest an arachnid quality. It is more of a middle-grade book so it's obviously written for a younger audience and the writing style reflects that.
