Two years after treatment Ruffo went into remission. But the star went on to reveal in November 2020 that the cancer had returned. Born in Perth in 1988, Ruffo first came to the public’s attention as a contestant on the musical reality show The X Factor, coming third in the 2011 competition. The following year he signed a contract with Sony Music Australia and recorded a duet with his former X Factor mentor Guy Sebastian, then competed in celebrity dance show Dancing With The Stars.

So, it's something that I don't want to think about. It just gets me a little bit emotional about it because I know at some point something will happen, whether it's, you know, a month from now or 10 years from now or 20 years.” Johnny will move slowly. I want him to box in the USA, Europe, I want him to have as much experience as possible because, eventually, there will be some big fights. In 2013 he went on to join the cast of Home and Away, playing fan favourite Chris Harrington until 2016. In 2017, Ruffo revealed he had been diagnosed with brain cancer. He underwent surgery to remove a tumour and two years later, revealed he was in remission. I've a few of them to ride, a few of my own to ride over the summer. One I hope might even win a race. I'm going to ride him when the time comes." Any chance of his name, Liam? "No," he laughed. On Friday, Sebastian remembered his friend as “the funniest bloke and such a kind soul … you lit up my life every time I saw you and I only wish I saw you more.” The TV star was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017 after he went to hospital with painful migraines. The way he handled himself in the ring was like a seasoned veteran - if he was a prospect from Team GB everybody would be excited. While Danii Minogue added: "The cheekiest chap. His voice, smile and dancing feet will be missed by so many. Thinking of his family in this heart breaking time." The star, who poured his efforts into raising money and awareness of the disease in Australia, revealed the diagnosis in an interview last year, where he also expressed concern for his partner.

He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017 after going to hospital with painful migraines, and that summer he was rushed to surgery to have a 7cm brain tumour removed from his frontal lobe. Johnny will not make it to Sligo on Sunday, but there will be no more interested observer on Racing TV.In 2012 Ruffo won Dancing with the Stars, and also later went on to appear on six episodes of Neighbours in 2020. He was rushed into surgery the same year to have a 7cm brain tumour surgically removed, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Fisher made short work of his first professional opponent but only had four amateur bouts so his progress will be "baby steps", says Jones, with five more fights hoped for in 2021 before they target titles next year. Then someone sent me a picture of the Racing Calendar two weeks ago and there was his name in it after being granted a qualified riders' licence. I rang to congratulate him and he said 'you were all laughing at me. You're not laughing now'."

You can only imagine how difficult it's been for her,” he told The Project of his partner Tahnee Sims. In 2013, Ruffo began a three-year stint on the soap opera Home and Away, playing Chris Harrington, the first son in a wealthy family and likable clown, who had several romances with women in Summer Bay. For his performance Ruffo was nominated for most popular new talent at the 2014 Logie awards. But how about the 64-year-old trainer who is set to return to the saddle at Sligo on Sunday to try to win his first race since 1988? Thought not. All joking side, he is some man. He rides out three or four lots a day and he's always the hardest to pass on the gallop. He keeps very active and that's why he's able to do this. Burke has ridden 17 winners under Rules and 38 in point-to-points and has not ridden publicly since taking part in a charity race at Listowel more than 20 years ago.I have a two part version of this tune in my “The Fiddle Music of Scotland”(James Hunter) book and it is credited to a John Coutts of Deeside. There are also versions in “The Harp and Claymore”(Skinner) and the Skye Collection. It is most certainly Scottish. It sounded very familiar but I couldn’t place it right away. Nigel Gatherer informed me of the name and I realized I had several versions of it in my mp3 collection. My favorite versions are the ones played by Alasdair Fraser and Laura Risk. Their versions are pretty much identical and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them learned it from the other. This particular setting is my attempt at a setting of how they play it. I couldn’t find any others like it on session.org. Paying condolences to Johnny's family, Former X Factor host and Spice Girl Mel B commented: "My heart just broke." What plays in my head a lot is, I hate to say this, how hard it may be for her if something does happen to me. I employ the “driven bow” or “arrow stroke” bowing technique on this tune as layed out in the beginning of “The Fiddle Music of Scotland” (Hunter). The first four notes are played down, up, up, up with a loop slur separating the 2nd and third notes. You’ll notice that this bowing pattern can be used at the the beginning of several phrases that begin with a scotch snap (16th note followed by a dotted eighth). To those not familiar with this technique, it’s a little challenging starting out, but it’s a lot of fun once you get use to it and you’ll start to notice the pattern in a lot of strathspeys. ↳
