So naturally when I saw that Junji Ito had finished a manga adaptation of Frankenstein it was a must buy.

The story is the same, because why would you change it? But we have these amazing pictures to go along with it. The story is a much faster and simpler read this way, but also extra exciting because of the pictures. As always the artwork from Junji Ito is stunning. Terrifying, body horror, goodness! In this adaptation of Junji Ito, we only follow the plot of the original story, with little liberties. I actually would have loved to see

This interpretation, though not off the rails, portrayed Frankenstein’s monster as more menacing and brute which in my opinion was captured well and made sense as it made more impact in graphic format. Personally, I prefer the original one when it came to the monster's character, because the way it was written was such that it was vague whether the monster was a little repentent or he was just cunning, whereas it was clear cut in this graphic format that he was evil through and through. I read through this manga in about an hour (which, granted, wasn’t that difficult as it wasn’t very long). The story, basically, stayed true to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; there may have been minor differences that I can’t actually remember from the original. But, in general, this is the story that I know as Frankenstein.Chik, Kalai (September 17, 2019). "Interview: Horror Manga Mastermind Junji Ito". Anime News Network. in Chinese (China)), archived from the original on September 20, 2022 , retrieved September 20, 2022 Collects: Assassins, Hair, Adopted Daughter, Little Finger, Boy, Moromi, Babysitter, Gathering, Passing Demon, Top Model, and Old and Ugly Speelman, Tom (July 25, 2021). "Junji Ito thinks the world has gotten scarier, but not as scary as his manga". Polygon. Archived from the original on March 30, 2023 . Retrieved March 30, 2023. Junji Ito’s original body of work often turns its human characters inside out to show how monstrous we truly are. In Uzumaki, he turns an obsession to spiral shapes into a metaphor on how people twist, turn, and contort to fit their strangest desires into their daily routines. People become spiral shapes themselves, offering their bodies as proof of humanity’s inner monstrosity. This is a short story collection which revolves around a pair of siblings who cause chaos everywhere they go. Nakahara, Shun (June 29, 2002), Tomie: Saishuu-shô - kindan no kajitsu (Horror), archived from the original on October 6, 2022 , retrieved October 6, 2022 There have been multiple Frankenstein retellings — from the comedic film Young Frankenstein to Disney’s Frankenweenie; at this point, I feel like everyone has indulged in some sort of Frankenstein tale. Please, horror friends, don’t hate me for this next comment, but I’ve never been a huge fan of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. I have major respect for the story, but reading it was a total drag. So, upon seeing Junji Ito’s rendition of the classic, I had a pretty good inkling that he would not let me down.
