Description

Cherry is one of the lighter woods but is also easily among one of the best-looking woods used for various purposes in the United States. The best and highest quality furniture is made from cherry wood. Another common requirement for lightweight wood is for making shelves where any other type of wood could prove to be too heavy. Lightest Types of Wood Alder is graded very highly as lumber goes and you can get a glossy finish to this wood, which adds to its good looks. Applications of Light Wood Pine is good for making smaller boxes. There are different types of pinewood available, yellow pine being the most widely used in the United States. Pine cuts easily and takes fasteners like nails and screws well. Maple is moderately light and does not have as long a life as several hardwoods. But it serves a vital role in the construction industry. Maple also makes good musical instruments and indoor furniture. Due to its limited resistance to moisture, insects, and rot, maple is more of an indoors type of wood. Ash

One of the common species from the cedar family is western red cedar. The wood is reddish and straight-grained, slightly aromatic, and moderately soft. Western red cedar makes good outdoor furniture and it survives well in humid environments. Water newly planted shrubs regularly for the first year, especially during hot, dry weather. In their second year, root systems are still developing, so continue to water regularly if rainfall isn’t enough. Once established, they’re quite drought tolerant and only need extra watering during dry spells. Water at the base of the plant to keep the foliage dry and conserve moisture with a layer of mulch that extends 12 to 15 inches past the foliage line. Diseases and pests:Since the bush responds well to pruning, the classic use of boxwood is in neatly trimmed hedges. But the smaller, slower-growing types also look great in containers: Install a couple in two urns and display them at an entrance where you want a tasteful, symmetrical design. Allergies/Toxicity: Although severe reactions are quite uncommon, boxwood has been reported as a sensitizer. Usually most common reactions simply include eye, skin, and respiratory irritation. See the articles Wood Allergies and Toxicity and Wood Dust Safety for more information. Lights. Visit a nearby hardware store and invest in several light bulbs. Pay attention to “Daylight” fluorescent light bulbs or “Full Spectrum” bulbs. In addition, it will be a great idea to construct a lighting fixture for your DIY photo light box. For this purpose, you may use your desk lamp.

Alder is another hardwood worth mentioning here. It is among the softest of hardwoods and perhaps with a slightly higher tensile strength than pine.Fabric. For instance, I bought white muslin in a nearby craft shop. Don't forget to measure the size of the box when purchasing fabric – it must be enough to cover the whole box. White fleece, nylon, and even old white undershirts are also excellent choices. This wood is also moderately-priced and being strong, makes great garden furniture. It shows minimum expansion when exposed to extreme humidity. Even the slight swelling that might occur when exposed to moisture can be minimized by painting the wood. Maple If you live in an area that is affected, Gem Box® and Strongbox® inkberry hollies can be great boxwood alternatives. Both are native evergreens that grow similarly in size, shape, and texture, and provide better resistance to disease and winter damage. Leaves affected by boxwood blight. Photo Courtesy of A.
