Description

To describe the macroscopic anatomy of the genital organs of the female pampas deer (Ozotoceros bezoarticus), organs from animals dead in a captive breeding station were dissected. A total of twenty females, 17 adults and 10 pre-puberal approximately 1 year old were studied by gross dissection. The ovaries of adult females without corpora lutea weighed 0.22±0.02 g on the right and 0.20±0.01 g on the left and accounted for 0.03±0.01% of body weight. All corpora lutea (n=6) were found in the right ovary, but in cases where there was no corpus luteum present, the right ovary tended to be heavier than the left (P=0.1). The absence of ovarian bursa, intercornual ligament and suburethral diverticle is peculiar to this deer species. Only 6 convex caruncles were found in the uterine horns, which differ from the more of 100 present in domestic ruminants. Four regular folds that were observed in the cervix of the uterus should not be an obstacle to the passage of a transcervical catheter, allowing intrauterine artificial insemination. The close relationship between the ovarian artery and vein stood up could be associated with the passage of the uterine luteolytic factor from the vein to the ovarian artery, avoiding its systemic way, as happens in domestic ruminants. While the plan of organization was similar, there are some differences with the descriptions of other ruminants. Our results may be very useful as it provides with information that may be considered for the development of female reproductive biotechnologies. The fallopian tubes are 2 narrow tubes. They carry eggs from your ovaries to your uterus. Sperm travels through them to try to fertilize your egg. When people refer to the vagina, they usually mean the visible, external part of the genitals. The anatomical term for this area is the vulva.

The visible portion of the clitoris is the clitoral glans. Typically, this is roughly the size and shape of a pea, and can vary in size from about 6mm to 25mm. [13] The size can also vary when it is erect. [6] The clitoral glans contains as many nerve endings as the much larger homologous glans penis in the male, which makes it highly sensitive. [13] The only known function of the clitoris is to focus sexual feelings. [13] The clitoral hood is a protective fold of skin which varies in shape and size, and it may partially or completely cover the clitoris. [14] The clitoris is the homologue of the penis, [8] and the clitoral hood is the female equivalent of the male foreskin, [14] and may be partially or completely hidden within the pudendal cleft. If the outer and inner lips are small and close to the inner thighs, the clitoral hood, which hides the clitoris, may be visible.

Bonaparte concluded from this an anatomical causal connection between a large CUMD and "vaginal frigidity" explaining why only women with the clitoral glans close to the vagina (so that it is continuously touched by the penis) were able to experience "the highest sexual pleasure" during coitus. [61] [62]

Clinical relations

The clitoris is just above the urethra. You can only see the tip of the clitoris which is about the size of a pea, and may be covered by a 'hood'. It has many sensitive nerve endings. It also has a shaft which extends into the body (see image above). When you feel sexually excited, the clitoris fills with blood and swells. When the clitoris is stroked or rubbed, this pleasurable feeling can produce an even more pleasurable and exciting sensation called an orgasm.

Int J Mol Sci. 2020;21(16):5760. doi:10.3390/ijms21165760 The uterine cycle also has three phases; menses, proliferative and secretory. The uterine phases act to prepare the uterus for potential fertilization and impending pregnancy. Kreklau A, et al. (2018). Measurements of a 'normal vulva' in women aged 15-84: a cross-sectional prospective single-centre study. The male equivalent of the clitoris is the penis, Nagoski notes. Just like the clitoris, the penis is the sexual pleasure center and is positioned front and center on the body. However, whereas only the head of the clitoris is visible outside of a woman’s body, the head and half the length of the entire penis is visible outside of a man’s body. Nagoski argues that their differences in appearance have everything to do with their differences in function. Whereas the clitoris is only responsible for sensation, the penis is responsible for sensation, penetration, ejaculation, and urination. Maclean, Allan; Reid, Wendy (2011). "40". In Shaw, Robert (ed.). Gynaecology. Edinburgh New York: Churchill Livingstone/Elsevier. pp.599–612. ISBN 978-0-7020-3120-5. The clitoris and the labia minora are both erogenous areas in the vulva. Local stimulation can involve the clitoris, vagina and other perineal regions. The clitoris is the human female's most sensitive erogenous zone and generally the primary anatomical source of human female sexual pleasure. [58] Sexual stimulation of the clitoris (by a number of means) can result in widespread sexual arousal and, if maintained, can result in orgasm. Stimulation to orgasm is optimally achieved by a massaging sensation.
