Description

If you are looking for action/plot then you may be disappointed; this is a character based novel that will pull you into the lives and hearts of this family. LIZA, a professor, is pregnant with a baby she's not sure she wants by a man she's not sure she loves and GRACE, their dawdling youngest daughter, lives a lie that no one in her family suspects.

When events ( set in motion by Declan’s children) put Declan into a care facility, they heartlessly throw Carol out of the house and put it up for sale. Forever Home is a deliciously dark comedy drama, full of secrets, bad decisions and difficult relationships. I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from HarperVia/Harper Collins via Edelweiss at my request, for my own reading enjoyment and the writing of this review. Carol found love again later in life when she developed a relationship with Declan, owner of the local pharmacy.I love Graham Norton's writing style - if you have read any of his other books then you'll love this one too. I'll be checking out his backlist for more fun and I highly recommend this entertaining story to those who enjoy a blend of Family Fiction and Cozy Mystery that's on the darkly humorous side!

With his his quick wit and attention to characters' flaws and growth, this is a delight and easy read! All the characters seem very realistic, I had a few theories while reading and it was so fun finding all the little details as I got through the days. During the interview Graham described parts of the book as a farce, which in all honesty it is, but in a way that one almost expects from a Graham Norton book. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom. Two families living in a small-town in Ireland, with complicated ties, collide in the most interesting, over-the-top way.As usual, this one starts with a gentle slice of Irish village life and characters, but soon descends into something darker. It is ostensibly the story of middle aged Carol whose second chance at love ends when Declan develops early onset dementia.

Graham Norton has won 9 BAFTAs for Best Entertainment Performance, and Best Entertainment Programme. I have said it before, with every review I’ve written on one of his novels, but Graham Norton really is in a class of his own. When it becomes clear Declan's condition will not improve, Declan's children quickly ask Carol to move out of the shared home so they can sell it.

The man's wife took off a few years ago, and it seems no one believes that the romance between Carol Crottie and the man, Declan Barry, is a good idea. Forced back home with her Strong Willed mother Moira, Carol’s life unfolds as she’d never anticipated, and things take a dark turn with a discovery in the family house.
