How could it be when character and plot are slaves to the concept, when all we have is the frame of a single camera? Modern technology and smaller GoPro type cameras have allowed for this type of film to be executed, but it is also well choreographed. The slightest split or bend can affect the aerial and chip that runs through the card, stopping the pass from registering on card readers on public transport. We continue our wander, but become lost and find ourselves on the other side of London, the fog sets in. There ain't no pay in blogging, and when there ain't no regular income either, every little helps, and is gratefully received.

The images also show how the photographers had to work the light to create their photos: look at how buildings in the background are over-exposed due to the exposure time needed for foreground objects. There are more than five hundred images in this book, most have never been seen or published before. Had the technology allowed him back in 2000, Mike Figgis would surely have shown his brilliant, split-screen Timecode this way. A must read for anyone with an interest in London and the UKs industrial/urban cultural inheritance which is scandalously and often deceitfully played down (or as shown here, wantonly destroyed) in favour of a bucolic English utopia that almost certainly never existed.

Il permet de se faire une idée de la vie dans une grande ville d'Europe de l'Ouest pendant la période couverte. Imagine today someone suggesting that the giant equestrian statue of The Duke of Wellington atop his arch should be removed.

For the first time in my six decades in the city I strolled on the foreshore at high tide, near where my dad had played in the mud in the 1920s. Please note that it is at the discretion of Transport for London to allow you to continue your journey with a faulty pass. The East End, were among the ship chandlers, opium dens a wilderness of dirt, rags and hunger, this part of London is haunting and heartbreaking but filled with a strength of character. As one might expect, some of the ill-fated buildings in these photographs were grand houses; with fortunes changing after the First World War and the subsequent decline of the traditional aristocratic lifestyle brought about by the blurring of class boundaries during the war, many stately homes were destined to be demolished.I actually collect old photographs myself, so the subject matter is naturally of interest to me, but this informative book also taught me an awful lot that I didn’t know about London in days gone by. The piece invites participants to question their routine journeys and examine their surroundings, the starting point being disused tube stations. Even after the war, buildings that could have been refurbished were knocked down to make way for new housing that would aim to eradicate the terrible poverty that had characterised large swathes of London for decades. I like architecture, because it’s in the blood: my uncle ran his own practice in Oxford and my great-great uncle was an architectural draughtsman, and a fine West Country watercolourist in the early 20th century (Arthur Fare, if you’re interested). If you have had two passes replaced and have lost a third in a 12 month rolling period, your replacement request will be referred to your borough.

This book is a monumental document about one of the world's great cities and about the photographers who documented the changes in London over 75 years. If your pass is cancelled and you have not informed us of your change of address you will have to pay for your travel until you contact us and you receive your new pass. and have been lovingly arranged and captioned by Davies into this tremendous picture book for London architecture aficionados.Des photos du vieux Londres disparu, à la netteté remarquable, émaillent chaque page de cet ouvrage. The Lost London Churches Project aims to promote interest in the ancient church buildings and parishes of the City of London through collectable cards, books, maps and explorers walks. They are taken from the LCC collection, now held by English Heritage and are strikingly sharp and detailed.
