A set of fairly hefty planar magnetic headphones, the HiFiMan Sundara will seem rather bulky if you’re not used to this driver type. The only issue in the build (besides the cables, more on this below) is it's a pretty straightforward design.

Mids: Hiroyuki Sawano – OldToday (01:25-01:52), vocal tonality is a lot better, cleaner and detailed as well as more forward on the Sundara. Although I still find the bass on sundara, to be a shade more for my taste but that doesn’t come in my way of enjoying the music anyhow. What the Bolt lacks is the depth and resolution that you get from a more expensive DAC/Amp like the second option I recommend. This sound signature works for most music listeners who like switching between various music genres like Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Folk and Pop.Though the impedance is low and the sensitivity is fairly high, you will need a decent amount of power to play with if you want to equalize the Sundara at all. Treble: Linkin Park – Shadow of the Day (03:24-03:42), electric guitars are a bit sharper on the Sundara but more tonally correct. Only drawback is, as Amir noted, the lack of swivel but you can swap headbands to fix this if you really want to. Evanescence – Bring me to life (01:18-01:35), more relaxing and non-fatiguing on the KPH30i but a lot more detailed and cleaner on the Sundara.

Violin tonality is better on the HD560S, but timbre, detail, timbre and treble-extension are better on the Sundara.It’s not perfect, the cable is somewhat funky and curly, plus the sound is a little peaky in the upper treble. As a verification, I asked my son to come over and without looking at the measurements and EQ, listen to the headphone plain and then with EQ I had built above. The frequency response is very close to our “studio” curve, if a mite emphasized in the highs, though I like adding some parametric EQ filters to get it even closer to our studio target. Comfort: Pretty good up to an hour for me, then the heat starts bothering me and also the weight (but I’m not really a headphone guy so…).
