Three days after delivering him into the world, she sat with Teddy as he took his last breaths, and tucked him in for the final time. I really admired her descriptions of self care in the face of trauma and how slowing down and focusing on yourself and your pain is healthy and necessary. It may have been her no nonsense approach to writing the book or maybe her ability to make me cry at some points and smile at others either way i fell in love. Elle is an inspirational woman and reading as someone who lost a child I could identify with everything she said.

Because by this point it was into the summer, I was a year and a bit after losing Teddy, and I felt so much stronger. It’s a story I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemy, but Elle, Nico, their families and friends have handled it with such grace, honesty and sensitivity that we, as an audience, should consider ourselves lucky to have had our eyes opened by them.

Just a few hours after giving birth, they woke to find a nurse holding a cold and unresponsive Teddy, who had stopped breathing during the night.

She popped up in my suggested page on Instagram and I was instantly drawn in by her beautiful pictures of interiors and her gorgeous pug Borris. Because I feel like we’re at a place in life if someone says to you ‘Oh I’ve been diagnosed with cancer’ there would have been a point in time where there would be a death sentence hanging over their head and we wouldn’t say anything. And when I turn and say ‘Actually 15 babies die every day in the UK’ they assume that includes miscarriage, and I’m like 'No that’s not to do with miscarriage, that’s just a baby that’s born after 33 weeks pregnancy, in the UK, that’s stillborn or died in the first two weeks of life.

We were delighted to have the opportunity recently to interview the wonderful Elle Wright: Creator of Feathering The Empty Nest, and it’s accompanying Instagram account, who has now written a gorgeous book: Ask Me His Name.

The human race never ceases to surprise me: The person who you think wouldn’t know what to say, suddenly becomes an absolute hero of mine, because they say all the right things. After having seen many reviews on social media about Ask Me His Name, I felt compelled to read Elle's story of love and loss of baby Teddy. Ultimately this is a personal story and others who lose a child will perhaps deal with their experiences in a different way so this isn’t a ‘How to deal with grief’ book.
